“Lovely Runner” Camera Directors Picked Best Kiss Scene, “Were Byun Woo-seok & Kim Hye-yoon Really Dating?”
Camera directors of tvN’s drama “Lovely Runner”, which recently gained huge popularity, revealed behind-the-scenes stories
On June 29th, the YouTube channel “K-Insider Insights” uploaded a new video featuring camera directors Yoon Dae-young and Shin Ki-chang of the drama “Lovely Runner” talking about the atmosphere on the filming set with the main character actors Byun Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon.
When asked how Byun Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon were on the set, director Yoon Dae-young shared, “Byun Woo-seok poured all his heart into this project. Facing difficulties after years of hard work and even getting eliminated right before shooting, he had his first lead role after nine years. Therefore, he called the writer every day to talk about preparing for the shoots. Above all, he has such a nice personality”.
Director Shin Ki-chang praised Kim Hye-yoon, saying “Kim Hye-yoon has more acting experience than Byun Woo-seok, but I loved how she always tried to keep up with the actor”. Drama PD Nam Tae-jin, who appeared as a host, also poured compliments on Kim Hye-yoon, saying “From a director’s point of view, there are actresses who help her male co-stars shine with her acting. My wife watched the drama and even exclaimed, ‘Kim Hye-yoon is so good. She makes Byun Woo-seok stand out’. When I saw her acting myself, I was also impressed by her acting. I guess the drama directors had no choice but to love her”.
Regarding the atmosphere when filming with the two actors, director Shin Ki-chang said, “They actually got along well. Such affectionate chemistry was not only created on camera, but the relationship between the two was indeed very good. They were so focused that even I wondered if there was something between them”.
Director Yoon Dae-young added, “Through their eyes, I could feel that they really cared and cherished each other. I also got emotional while filming them. They made me feel immersed in their pure and refreshing emotions of first love from our young days”.
When asked about Byun Woo-seok’s visual in real life, the directors said, “We tried to capture 100% of his beauty but the results didn’t come out as our expectations. He looks much more handsome in real life”.
The camera directors also pointed out that the hardest thing about filming “Lovely Runner” was that the seasons were filmed backward, saying “We filmed summer scenes in winter and the actor had to endure the cold. Hye-yoon’s high school scene was filmed in around November or December but she wore a summer uniform”.
“Lovely Runner” captivated female viewers of all ages with many kiss scenes. The directors also selected the best kiss scenes in their opinions.
Director Yoon Dae-young said, “The kiss scene in front of the main door of the house”, adding “It was so long that I even asked the main director ‘Isn’t it too long?’. I remember filming such a long kiss”. Shin Ki-chang added, “It’s a romantic comedy, but we filmed it like a melodrama”.
PD Nam Tae-jin commented, “I think the kiss scene in the beach house was very beautiful because it was not shot from the usual angle”. Director Yoon Dae-young added, “Normally, we would shoot from a 90-degree side angle, but we adjusted it to match the characters and capture a more lovely atmosphere”.
Regarding his favorite scene, director Yoon said, “People talk about the umbrella scene a lot, but personally, there are two other scenes that stood out for me. One is when Hye-yoon falls asleep at the video store then Woo-seok approaches and looks at her. The other is the two-shot scene of when Hye-yoon wearing headphones on the bus”.
