Lee Je-hoon Mentions Filming Delay Due To His Ischemic Colitis Surgery, “Hard To Push Ahead With Schedules”

Actor Lee Je-hoon revealed that he took a month off from filming schedules due to ischemic colitis surgery

On May 20th, Lee Je-hoon met with Tenasia at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul and revealed various behind-the-scenes stories about MBC’s Fri-Sat drama “Chief Detective 1958”.

“Chief Detective 1958” is a prequel to the famous Korean investigation series “Chief Inspector”. Set in 1958, the drama tells the story that happens when Detective Park Yeong-han (Lee Je-hoon) is appointed to Seoul. Park Yeong-han, a detective specializing in apprehending petty thieves, breaks down the absurdities of corrupt power with common sense and is reborn as a detective for the people.

In this drama, Lee Je-hoon took on the role of Park Young-han, which was played by Choi Bul-am in “Chief Inspector”. With his great strength and sharp insight, this character is unshakable under any external pressure.

Recalling the filming process, Lee Je-hoon said, “We already filmed for 8 months since the filming began in July last year. There was only one month left but I suddenly got sick and couldn’t continue the filming”, adding “It was the longest filming process for me. However, when I watched the official broadcast, it felt so short that I even wondered if a 10-episode drama were that short”.

In fact, Lee Je-hoon underwent emergency surgery for ischemic colitis in October last year.

He continued, “There were many scenes that I struggled to film. Seeing them being organized into a one-hour broadcast, I wondered why time flew so fast. If the drama had had 16 episodes, there would have been more to show. I believe that we could have created more content and stories of the cases”.

When asked about the difficulties on the set, Lee Je-hoon shared, “I received the script for each episode, but the scripts for the later episodes were released a bit late to enhance the completeness of the drama. The filming schedules had all been set but the scripts were a bit late so we struggled to push ahead with the filming. Except for that, there were no other difficulties”.

Regarding Season 2, the actor confessed, “I do have expectations for that. However, the decision is not in my hands”, adding “Since Choi Bul-am appeared at the beginning and the end of the drama, I believe that this drama is already a perfect prequel”.
