LE SSERAFIM (Kim Chae-won, Sakura, Huh Yun-jin, Kazuha, and Hong Eun-chae) will release their second mini album “ANTIFRAGILE” on October 17th. This is LE SSERAFIM’s second album and the first album to be released after the group was reformed with 5 members.
LE SSERAFIM raised high expectations from the beginning of the production stage before their debut, but school violence suspicions centering on former member Kim Ga-ram arose in the process. Source Music denied the allegations and pushed ahead with Kim Ga-ram’s debut. However, the controversy intensified and Kim Ga-ram had to stop all activities 18 days after her debut. Source Music then terminated their exclusive contract with Kim Ga-ram in July and reorganized LE SSERAFIM into a five-member group.
Making their debut amid keen interest and expectations, LE SSERAFIM was eventually affected by the former member’s school violence scandal. Together with the controversy over the selection of outfits for the debut song “Fearless”, the girl group suffered a hard time right after their debut.
While LE SSERAFIM was taking some time to recover from such issues, many other girl groups debuted and made hit songs. Making their debut in December last year, IVE has emerged as a strong candidate for the Rookie of the Year award by making three consecutive hits, such as “ELEVEN”, “LOVE DIVE” and “After LIKE”. Girl group New Jeans, which debuted in July this year, has just released one album but already drew huge attention from K-pop fans and created a sensation in the second half of this year.
In addition, the fact that other rookie girl groups, such as Kep1er, NMIXX and Billlie, are also releasing new songs and preparing comebacks, signals fierce competition at the end of this year.
