HYBE is facing growing criticism online after reports claimed the company quietly changed the English stage name of Sakura amid preparations for a new girl group debut.
According to viral posts circulating across Korean online communities, Sakura’s official English name has allegedly been modified from simply “SAKURA” to “MIYAWAKI SAKURA” on several related platforms and profile pages.

The controversy reportedly began after rumors emerged that HYBE is preparing to debut a new girl group called SAINT SATINE, which allegedly also includes a Japanese member named Sakura.
Because both artists would be promoting under the same company while sharing the same stage name, many netizens believe HYBE chose to differentiate the two idols by adding “Miyawaki” — Sakura’s family name — to the LE SSERAFIM member’s official branding.

However, the alleged change quickly sparked backlash among fans.
Many argued that Sakura has already spent years building strong public recognition under the simple stage name “SAKURA,” dating back to her activities in Japan and later through IZ*ONE and LE SSERAFIM.

Fans expressed concern that changing her branding now could create confusion across social media platforms, search engines, and existing fan content tied to her long-established name.
Some online users also criticized HYBE for seemingly prioritizing a rookie group over a senior artist with an already established international reputation.

A number of fans questioned why the company would reportedly alter the name of a veteran idol rather than simply giving the new trainee a different stage name before debut.
Still, reactions inside Korean online communities have remained divided.
While many fans defended Sakura, others argued that HYBE has the right to organize artist branding as it sees fit. Some netizens also viewed the reported adjustment as a practical solution to avoid confusion between two idols working under the same label.
As of now, HYBE has not released any official statement confirming whether Sakura’s stage name has actually been changed.
The issue continues drawing significant attention online, especially as both LE SSERAFIM’s ongoing activities and the rumored debut of SAINT SATINE remain major talking points among K-pop fans.
