Korean Fansites Got Violent at 2024 GDA, Criticized by Fans

On January 6, the 38th Golden Disc Awards (hereinafter referred to as “2024 GDA”) was held  at the Jakarta International Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

While many fans enjoyed the event, there have been several videos which captured the scene of Korean fansites getting violent, gaining ample attention on SNS platform.

In particular, the Korean fansites in question, both of whom are male, could be seen shouting vulgar words and pushing local GDA staff. It is suspected that the men reacted violently after being asked to leave for violating the regulations of the event.

As a result, local fans are reporting these incidents to Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration, in hope for a thorough investigation and possible blacklist.

On the Korean forum “theqoo”, a topic about the fansites’ violent behavior has also become a hot topic with hundreds of comments.

Below are some comments from Korean netizens:

  • What a shame for Korea
  • Those men act exactly the same in Korea… They ignored the staff and security’s requests, and in the belief that they are superior and stronger, they would get violent
  • Did the security staff who got pushed get hurt? This is seriously upsetting. Korean men act like dicks both at home and overseas, it’s disappointing to see
  • I’ve seen those men in the past. When security asked them to leave, they refused and started to get violent. I asked them to do it outside since it ruined the atmosphere for others, but they wouldn’t listen like the scumbags they are
  • I wonder if they would act the same against a bigger and stronger staff member? They only behaved like this because they believed they can intimidate others
