HYBE’s US Girl Group Project Mission 1: Japan & Slovakia trainees eliminated, Korean trainee No.1 in fan vote
HYBE’s US Girl Group Project “The Debut: Dream Academy” has completed the first mission
HYBE & Geffen Records announced the results of the first mission in the global girl group project “The Debut: Dream Academy” through a video uploaded on the Youtube channel ‘HYBE LABELS+’ at midnight on September 16th (KST).
The released video shows the intense evaluation of four teams and individual trainees, announces the results of the final fan vote and elimination then introduces the second mission.
In particular, Nayeon from South Korea drew attention as she ranked No.1 in the fan votes on YouTube and Weverse with 109,289 votes, followed by No.2 Sophia from the Philippines (92,617 votes). The Top 6 in fan votes received an “exemption benefit” and automatically advanced to the second mission.
2 among the remaining 14 trainees except for Top 6 would be eliminated through judges’ evaluation.
Geffen VP Charlie Christie praised the Vocal Team B in their performance of “Still Into You”, saying “I think Nayoung and Lara had great chemistry”. Regarding the Vocal Team A, who sand the mashup of Robin’s “Dancing on My Own” and Billie Eilish’s “Happier than Ever”, the judges said, “All of them have excellent singing skills. It’s amazing to have them work together as a team”. The performance of “Pink Venom” by Dance Team A was also praised for their synchronization, especially two American members. Dance Team B with their “OMG” stage also received favorable reviews from creator Son Sung Deok.
Apart from compliments, the judges also gave sharp feedback on each individual’s strengths and weaknesses.
Two eliminated trainees are from Dance Team A. The judges evaluated that Adela failed to take advantage of her strengths, while Hinari was still young and needed to develop her skills more.
As a result, 18 trainees who passed the first mission will come to Korea, the homeland of K-pop, to prepare for their second mission. Mission 2 is the Team Mission and will be released at midnight on the 23rd.
