Jiang Yiyi has been reported for tax evasion, and it’s been revealed that even her family violated the law.
Recently, Chinese media outlet ‘Headline News’ reported on Jiang Yiyi’s tax evasion allegations. According to the report, a whistleblower close to Jiang Yiyi reported her tax evasion to the Chinese mainland tax authorities starting from February this year, and in July, it was confirmed by the prosecution that the tax evasion was indeed true.
Jiang Yiyi is now in a situation where she has to pay 2.38 million Chinese yuan (approximately 325,853 USD) in taxes and late fees.
The whistleblower also disclosed the contents of the tax evasion report, revealing that Jiang Yiyi’s mother was involved, causing even more shock.
In October 2016, her mother established a studio for her daughter, and until 2021, all of Jiang Yiyi’s income, approximately 16.13 million Chinese yuan, was transferred to her personal account. Due to relevant tax laws, Jiang Yiyi was able to avoid paying personal income tax.
News of Jiang Yiyi being caught for tax evasion quickly made her the number one trending topic on Chinese social media Weibo. Amid this, Jiang Yiyi broke her silence and expressed her stance.
On August 4th (local time), Jiang Yiyi posted on her Weibo, “I am deeply reflecting.” She explained that her agency proposed the establishment of the studio in 2016 as part of a management contract.
Jiang Yiyi further explained that her agency fully controlled the studio’s finances, licenses, and more, and her mother repeatedly requested financial confirmation from the agency but was denied. It was only in 2021, after some time had passed, that they discovered issues with tax payments.
She then stated that she has now paid the late fees as well and will accumulate financial and tax knowledge through this experience, committing to fulfilling her tax obligations honestly.
