“Wonderful World” Director Explains Cha Eun-woo & Kim Nam-joo Casting, “There’s No Specific Reason”

“Wonderful World” marks Kim Nam-joo’s comeback after 6 years and Cha Eun-woo’s new acting transformation

On February 29th, MBC’s new Fri-Sat drama “Wonderful World” held a press conference at MBC Golden Mouth Hall in Sangam, Seoul with the participation of director Lee Seung-young, Kim Nam-joo, Cha Eun-woo and Kim Kang-woo.

“Wonderful World” is a mystery drama about Eun Soo-hyun (Kim Nam-joo) digging up the secrets of the day her son was murdered. The drama was jointly created by “Tracer 1 & 2” and “Voice 2” director Lee Seung-young and writer Kim Ji-eun of “Lie After Lie” and “Cheongdamdong Scandal”.

Kim Nam-joo

The drama is arousing keen attention as it marks “drama queen” Kim Nam-joo’s comeback on the small screen after six years and on MBC after 13 years. In this regard, the actress said, “I’m feeling very nervous. The drama is really interesting and I think I’ve created a good project with all the actors and staff”. In “Wonderful World”, Kim Nam-joo plays Eun Soo-hyun, a successful psychology professor and writer who wants to punish the murderer after losing her young son. She shared, “I chose this work because I wanted to express the feelings and pain of a mother who lost her child unfairly on behalf of all mothers in this world”.

Cha Eun-woo

Cha Eun-woo is trying to make a new image transformation by taking on the role of Kwon Seon-yul, a mysterious guy who grew up in a wealthy family but lives a rough life after losing his parents. Expectations for Cha Eun-woo are high as he no longer chose a sweet character this time. The actor shared, “I wanted to express the process of Seon-yul overcoming his pains and wounds. As the episodes continue, various secrets will be unveiled like a ‘Pandora’s box’.”

When asked about their unexpected collaboration, Cha Eun-woo said, “Our chemistry is 100 points out of 100”, while Kim Nam-joo gave 110 points out of 100. Cha Eun-woo explained, “She looked cold at the first script reading but she approached me first and we became closer after various conversations and discussions”. Kim Nam-joo added, “It was a great opportunity for me to work with him. Cha Eun-woo is very flexible and open-minded. He looked like a prince so I felt a little burdened at first. Later, he becomes such a cute little brother to me.”

Wonderful World

Regarding the casting of Cha Eun-woo and Kim Nam-joo, director Lee said, “There’s no reason for it. I believed that they were the actors who suited the roles the most. Cha Eun-woo looks exactly like how I could imagine his character in the script.”

Ahead of the first broadcast, Cha Eun-woo set the goal of a 16% rating because it’s Kim Nam-joo’s comeback drama after six years. Kim Nam-joo expressed her desire to reach 23% with her first MBC drama in 13 years.

Meanwhile, “Wonderful World” will air at 1:30 p.m. on February 29th.
