Cha Eun-woo has become the center of renewed public attention after the Ministry of National Defense confirmed that he will continue serving in the military band despite repeated petitions requesting his reassignment.

According to a report from Sports Seoul, the controversy began after a petition was submitted through the national civil complaint system questioning whether Cha Eun-woo’s placement in the military band was appropriate.

Critics argued that the military band’s frequent involvement in public events and promotional activities made it a highly visible position, raising concerns about fairness and public perception following the celebrity’s recent tax-related controversy.

However, the Ministry of National Defense has now responded for a second time, firmly stating that there are no grounds for reassignment. Officials cited internal military personnel regulations, explaining that reassignment is only considered under specific conditions such as health issues, disciplinary action, unit restructuring, or operational necessity.

The ministry emphasized that Cha Eun-woo does not meet any of these criteria and therefore will continue his current duties without change. It also noted that individual case details remain confidential due to privacy protections.

Earlier in April, the issue initially surfaced following reports of a tax audit involving Cha Eun-woo. At the time, his agency acknowledged the matter and stated that all related taxes had been fully paid, attempting to ease public concerns. Despite this, a follow-up petition was later filed requesting another review of his military assignment.

As of now, Cha Eun-woo continues his mandatory service in the military band, and the Defense Ministry has made clear that its position remains unchanged.

The case has sparked mixed reactions online, with some calling for stricter scrutiny of celebrity military roles, while others argue that standard regulations should apply equally to all service members regardless of public status.
