Fantagio Addresses Controversy Over Moonbin’s Memorial Space: Denies Financial Gain, Announces Space Closure

Fantagio has explained the controversy surrounding the memorial space for the late Moonbin

On December 3rd, through ASTRO’s fan cafe, Fantagio said, “Regarding the current controversy about the space related to the late Moonbin at Seonunsa Temple, false information is being indiscriminately spread on social media.”

The statement continued, “Fantagio has not entered into any agreement, covenant, or contract with Seonunsa, and there is no financial relationship whatsoever.”

The statement emphasized, “The claim that Fantagio is financially benefiting from using the temple is clearly false. The temple stay is operated directly by Seonunsa, separate from Fantagio. We hope there is no misunderstanding.”

Fantagio further said, “After deep discussions, we have decided to immediately close the space at Seonunsa Temple related to Moonbin on December 3rd at 8 p.m., according to the opinions of Aroha.”

Fantagio added, “Our staff went to Seonunsa with sincere intentions to prepare the space for Moonbin for several days. We earnestly request not to distort and incite the feelings of Fantagio staff towards Moonbin.”

Earlier, ATRO fans Aroha announced a boycott against Fantagio, stating that Fantagio moved Moonbin’s memorial space deep into the mountains, more than 4 hours away from Seoul, and planned to exhibit the late idol’s belongings.

They claimed that Fantagio exhibited Moonbin’s life as a tourism product after entering into a business agreement with Seonunsa.

Moonbin passed away at the age of 25 in April of this year.

The following is the full statement from Fantagio:

“This is Fantagio.

We express our gratitude to Aroha for always supporting ASTRO. We are posting this notice to correct the facts as false information about the current space at Seonunsa related to Moonbin is being indiscriminately spread on social media.

Firstly, Fantagio explicitly states that we have not entered into any agreement, covenant, or contract with Seonunsa, and there is no financial relationship. The decision to move the space from Gukcheongsa to Seonunsa was made out of concern for the safety of visitors during the winter and to enshrine Moonbin’s permanent memorial.

Furthermore, the claim that Fantagio benefits financially by using the temple operated by Seonunsa is clearly false.

Considering that Aroha may have unexpected situations requiring immediate accommodation, Seonunsa graciously offered free accommodation and meals. We want to emphasize that Fantagio and Seonunsa had no profit motive beyond consideration.

After careful consideration of Aroha’s opinions, we have decided to immediately close the space at Seonunsa related to Moonbin on December 3rd at 8 p.m.

Our staff went to Seonunsa with sincere intentions to prepare the space for Moonbin for several days. We earnestly request not to distort and incite the feelings of Fantagio staff towards Moonbin.

Once again, we assert that Fantagio has no financial relationship with Seonunsa, and we will strongly respond to any distribution of false rumors in the future.

We express our gratitude to the Seonunsa monks and everyone involved at Gukcheongsa for their consideration regarding the space at Seonunsa. We apologize for causing concern due to the controversy surrounding the space related to Moonbin.”
