Chinese media expects that Kris Wu would receive a heavy punishment for sexual harassment as a demonstration case
Local media reported that Kris Wu (real name Wu Yi Fan), a former member of EXO, was arrested by the Chinese police on charges of sexual assault and is expected to receive a heavy punishment.
According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on August 9, “ The Chinese Communist Party is taking Kris Wu’s case seriously. The people of authority believe that idol fan clubs have more influence on the public than the Chinese Communist Party.”
SCMP reported, “Since President Xi Jinping took over, he said on behalf of the Communist Party of China that he believes the Communist Party should control all parts of the society and strengthen its power in every area. In this situation, the Chinese idol fan club was an extraterritorial case”
According to SCMP, “The authority has started working on the case two months ago. Kris Wu’s case was adopted as a demonstration case because sexual harassment on minors is a serious crime that can be sentenced to death in China. In the future, the authority will continue to intervene in the celebrity fandoms.”
The Beijing Metropolitan Public Security Bureau said on Weibo on the 31st of last month, “We have investigated allegations of Kris Wu luring young women several times to have sex. We are currently conducting criminal custody of Kris Wu, who has a Canadian nationality, for rape.” The police did not reveal details of the charges that Kris Wu might receive.
The alleged sexual violence by Kris Wu was revealed by Du Meidzu, 18 years old, who claimed to be Kris Wu’s ex-girlfriend.
According to police investigations, Du Meidzu was interviewed for the main actress role in a music video in December of last year. Then Kris Wu and Du Meidzu kept in touch with each other. Later, the police confirmed that Kris Wu had sex with Du Meidzu during a party at his house.
In China, there are just a few cases in which a suspect that the police have detained could be cleared of charges. As a result, Kris Wu will likely be charged with rape.
