Chanel “We are aware of Ambassador G-Dragon’s case”

Amid allegations of drug use involving G-Dragon, luxury brand Chanel, which appointed him as an ambassador, has cautiously responded to the situation

On Oct 26th, a Chanel official told Ilgan Sports, “We are aware of G-Dragon’s case. However, we currently have no official statement to make.

Earlier, on Oct 25th, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Unit announced that G-Dragon was booked for violating the Narcotics Control Act. However, the police clarified that G-Dragon’s case and the earlier one involving actor Lee Sun-kyun, who was booked for marijuana and psychotropic drug use, are unrelated. The drug investigation that originated at adult entertainment establishments in Gangnam, Seoul seems to be gradually spreading to the entertainment industry.

The advertising industry is likely to be the most affected by G-Dragon’s non-detention booking. G-Dragon was appointed as Chanel’s ambassador in 2016, drawing attention as the first male Asian ambassador for the brand. He has participated in many Chanel official events, and his wardrobe and accessories have featured Chanel products.

G-Dragon attended the “Chanel 2023·24 Cruise Show” in May and the “Chanel X Frieze Cocktail Reception” held at the Chanel flagship store in Gangnam, Seoul on Sep 7th.

However, this incident could have an inevitable impact on Chanel’s image as many netizens have shared photos and videos raising suspicions of G-Dragon’s drug use while wearing Chanel outfits. While Chanel has taken a cautious stance, if G-Dragon’s drug allegations are confirmed through the police investigation, this issue could escalate to compensation claims.

Meanwhile, the police plan to determine the exact type and frequency of drug use related to G-Dragon in the near future.
