BLACKPINK’s Jisoo Criticized for “Omniscient Reader” Role – Fans Jumped to Defense

On January 24, it is confirmed that BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is casted in the movie adaptation of popular novel “Omniscient Reader”, where she will star alongside big names like Lee Min-ho and Ahn Hyo-seop.

According to the official announcement, Jisoo will assume the role of Lee Ji-hye, a physically strong 17-year-old girl who stands side by side with one of the male leads, Yoo Joong-hyuk.

In response to this, many fans of the original novel and the webtoon adaptation show disappointment. Particularly, most of them complained about the production team’s decision to cast a 30-year-old woman to play a 17-year-old girl.

Meanwhile, BLINKs who saw these complaints immediately jumped to Jisoo’s defense, stating that the female idol can easily play a school girl. According to them, using adults to play teenagers is nothing new in the Korean movie and K-drama scene, and actually makes more sense than casting people not of legal age.

Many also praised Jisoo’s ageless visuals and cited comments on Dior ads where Jisoo is mistaken for a teenager.

On the other hand, some fans also mentioned the fandom wiki of “Omniscient Reader”, which describes Lee Ji-hye’s appearance as being “locked in her 20s”. This makes sense for Jisoo to play this character.
