2022 is a pretty hectic year for the Korean showbiz, with all sorts of events from weddings, breakups, comebacks, to scandals. So what are the most remarkable of them all?

As 2023 is fast approaching, let’s recall and sum up the most noticeable events of 2022, from the most outstanding Kpop group, to the most remarkable wedding. At the same time, there are some events that are not-so-happy yet still make it to various headlines. 

Most remarkable wedding of 2022: Hyun Bin – Son Ye Jin

There are a lot of marriages that take the 2022 Korean showbiz by storm, from Park Shin Hye – Choi Tae Joon, Hyun BinSon Ye Jin, to Gong Hyo Jin – Kevin Oh. However, the one that made it to the frontpages and has never stopped being a hot topic is none other than the beautiful ceremony of Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, who tied the knot on March 31st.

As superstars in the Korean showbiz, and a love story supported by both fans of the public, the union between Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin was called “wedding of the century”, and was held at a dream-like venue. The wedding also include a guest list full of stars, with Gong Hyo Jin, Song Yoon Ah, Lee Min Jung, Uhm Ji Won, Lee Jung Hyun và Yoona (SNSD), Ji Jin Hee, Jang Dong Gun, Ahn Sung Ki, Song Joong Ki, etc… all present at the scene. 

Most remarkable girl group of 2022: BLACKPINK

While 2022 is an extremely competitive year for Kpop girl groups, BLACKPINK still maintains their top position, both in and outside of Korea. The group, which finally made their comeback after 2 years with “BORN PINK”, managed to set a lot of new records both with physical and digital sales.

Currently, BLACKPINK is busy with their world tour, and has completed performances in various cities in North America and Europe. At the same time, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, all stay the ambassadors for luxury brands and receive extravagant treatments. 

Most remarkable boy group of 2022: BTS

The popularity of BTS has long transcended outside of Korea. In 2022, BTS held a huge concert in Busan, at the same time making their own outstanding mark with the anthology album “Proof”. They even received nominations at the Grammys and delivered an outstanding stage for “Butter” at this prestigious award ceremony.

2022 is also a year of changes for BTS, with members focusing more on individual activities and Jin enlisting. j-hope, RM, and Jin have so far dropped their own solo releases, while Jungkook participated in an official World Cup theme song, and even performed at the opening ceremony for the world’s largest football league. 

Most remarkable comeback: BIGBANG 

After 4 years of no releases and a huge controversy surrounding former member Seungri, BIGBANG made the year’s most impressive return with the single “Still Life”. Despite receiving no promotion nor physical album, the song attained huge achievements, and moved the hearts of fans with the promise to “come again someday”.

Audiences all over Asia were thrilled with the group’s comeback.  The group’s comeback was like an “explosion” as it became the focus of discussion on all social media platforms.  Although not promoting, the song still easily achieved Perfect All-Kill (PAK) on Korean music sites, achieving many outstanding achievements, helping the group assert the position of “Kpop king”.

Most noticeable female idols 

The year 2022 witnessed the outstanding success of rookie girl groups.  Jang Won Young (IVE), Sullyoon (NMIXX), Karina (aespa), Yuna (ITZY) became the top visuals thanks to their outstanding beauty and top-notch aura.

Jang Won Young with a luxurious and haughty aura, Sullyoon with a fairy-like beauty, Karina with a CG-like appearance, and “living doll” Yuna entertained the public with visual parties.  The audience expects that in the coming year, these beauties will explode in both fame and beauty.

Most serious controversy: Lee Seung Gi

In November, Dispatch released a series of evidence that Hook Entertainment did not pay Lee Seung Gi more than 10 billion won in music profits during his 18-year career.  Not only that, the singer-actor has also been abused and threatened by the CEO for the past 18 years.

Although Hook Entertainment has just paid Lee Seung Gi an amount of 5.4 billion won, the male singer still sued the company to expose the truth and get justice.  After all, despite being the most pitiful star, Lee Seung Gi became the most respectable person as he decided to donate all of this money to charity activities.

Most regretful couple: HyunA and Dawn

However, in 2022, the Korean entertainment industry also has to witness unfortunate breakups.  On the afternoon of November 30, Hyuna suddenly posted a status line on SNS, “We have broken up. We decided to remain good friends and colleagues in the future. Thank you for always cheering and supporting us.” Thus, Hyuna and Dawn officially “go their separate ways” after nearly 7 years of dating.

Just in February 2022, Dawn proposed to Hyuna with a custom ring.  Fans thought the couple would get married soon, but in the end, they broke up after nearly 7 years of dating and 9 months of engagement.
