Best friend squads in K-dramas: “The Glory” is the odd one out

Here are some of the most loved groups of best friends in K-dramas.

The Glory

The Glory Song Hye Kyo

In “The Glory”, the main character Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) is brutally bullied by a group of perpetrators in high school, causing her to be mentally shattered and dreaming of revenge.

The gang of bullies is led by Park Yeon Jin (Lim Ji Yeon). There are also Jae Jun (Park Sung Hoon), Sa Ra (Kim Hieora), Hye Jeong (Cha Joo Young) and Song Myung O (Kim Gun Woo). Together, they traumatize Moon Dong Eun with ruthless acts to the point that she has to withdraw from high school.

When they grow up, these perpetrators of school violence still stay friends but their relationships become more complicated. Jae Jun and Yeon Jin have a child together even though Yeon Jin is married to another man. Myeong O turns into Jae Jun’s “servant” who helps him with chores.

Although they are seemingly best friends, due to their different backgrounds, the rich ones look down on the poor ones. Yeon Jin, Sa Ra, and Jae Jun harass Hye Jeong. Myeong O has the lowest level of power within the group and is used by everyone.

They are in the same group, but they are ready to turn their backs on each other to protect themselves. This bully squad in “The Glory” is definitely not “friendship goals”.

Hospital Playlist

The best friend squad in “Hospital Playlist” includes 5 talented doctors, Ik Joon (Cha Jung Seok), Jeong Won (Yeon Seok), Jun Wan (Kyung Ho), Seok Kyung (Dae Myung) and Song Hwa (Jeon Mi Do).

They accidentally met each other at an event at the university. After graduating from school, they worked in the same hospital with different positions. Although the job of a doctor is very busy, they often take time to hang out together and have fun.

When someone has difficulties in their personal lives, the remaining 4 members of the group are there to help. Their heartwarming love and support for each other, their hilarious and natural chemistry are what makes viewers love “Hospital Playlist”.

Twenty Five, Twenty One

Twenty Five Twenty One

“Twenty Five, Twenty One” revolves around the relationship of Hee Do (Kim Tae Ri), Yi Jin (Nam Joo Hyuk), Yoo Rim (Bona), Ji Woong (Choi Hyun Wook) and Seung Wan (Lee Joo Myung). From 5 strangers, they gradually become close friends.

The fun and emotional memories these characters share with each other during their youth make the best footage of “Twenty Five, Twenty One” . But unfortunately, by the end of the drama, they part ways. Everyone has to go on their own path, just like how things would roll in real life.

Business Proposal

Another fun group of friends that created a buzz in the K-drama scene last year is in “Business Proposal”. Hari (Kim Se Jeong) goes on a blind date in disguise of her chaebol best friend Young Seo (Seo In Ah), but she ends up getting caught up in an unexpected romance with CEO Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo Seop). Meanwhile, Young Seo falls for Cha Seung Hoon (Kim Min Kyu), CEO Kang’s secretary and best friend.

From two duos of best friends, fate arranges for these four characters to become two couples. Together, they bring countless sweet and funny scenes to the viewers.

Thirty Nine

In “Thirty Nine”, the friendship of the three female leads who are all about to enter their 40s, is heartwarming and tear-jerking at the same time.

Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin), Cha Young (Jeon Mi Do) and Ju Hui (Kim Ji Hyun) are best friends. They share everything with each other, from joy to hardship. They are like real sisters to one another.

Unfortunately, by the end of the drama, Cha Young passes away after battling a disease, leaving indescribable pain for her two best friends. “Thirty Nine” is a meaningful drama about life and friendship that not only gives you a good cry but also brings you valuable lessons.
