They are among the longest-running Korean boy groups, but it turned out that they almost disbanded because of the battle between these two idols.
Super Junior debuted 17 years ago, went through many lineup changes but still remained active. However, not everyone knows that the group was on the verge of disbandment because of a fight between the two oldest members, Leeteuk and Heechul. This incident is so big that it’s called the “battle of Incheon” by fans, but for Super Junior, it’s a laugh-out-loud memory and they’re always excited to recount it whenever they get the chance.
Recently, Leeteuk, Donghae, Eunhyuk and Shindong participated in the show “Dolsing for Men”, thereby revealing more details around this story. The incident happened when Super Junior attended a concert in Incheon in 2010. According to Donghae, although Leeteuk and Heechul are same-age friends (both born in 1983), their personalities are completely opposite. If Leeteuk always thinks from the leader’s point of view, Heechul is carefree and upholds his personal opinion.
Because the group lived in the same dorm, they grew tired of each other. Until one day, Leeteuk expressed his stress and anger because the male idol had been patient for 10 years. Donghae recalled, “That was when we went to Incheon to perform. Leeteuk suddenly shouted to Heechul, ‘It’s been 10 years!’, and dragged him out. They got into such a big fight that Super Junior was almost disbanded at that time”.
Leeteuk added that he pushed Heechul and said, “It’s been 10 years”, but Heechul was confused. Meanwhile, the rest of the members tried to dissuade the duo. Shindong said, “We all thought they would end up punching each other, but they were just moving around. Luckily they weren’t fighting or doing anything else . “
However, when the 2 members were “fighting” with each other, the staff announced that it was the group’s turn to go on stage. Super Junior‘s leader recalled, “We were arguing when the staff asked us to come up. We stopped arguing and went on stage immediately, but didn’t look at each other during the performance.”
The tension between the same-age couple lasted throughout Super Junior‘s performance, so much so that a small choreography detail was changed by them. Eunhyuk said, “There was a part where Leeteuk and Heechul had to sing while leaning against each other. But that day they were standing a meter away. It’s still funny now that I think about it, Leeteuk even looks angry.” However, the male idol revealed that the two big brothers of the group only pushed each other, but never really got into a real fight.
Before that, the “battle of Incheon” was mentioned by Super Junior when they were present at the program Kiss The Radio 2015. They also revealed that some artists such as G-Dragon and Taeyang (BIGBANG), Se7en, etc. were present at the scene and witnessed the fight between Leeteuk and Heechul that year. It is not clear how the two members reconciled, but the group is now happy to mention this event, showing that Super Junior still maintains their solidarity despite the inevitable conflicting moments.
