On the show, Uhm Jung Hwa drew attention as she confessed her fear after undergoing thyroid cancer surgery. The actress honestly shared, “After releasing the album ‘Disco’, I lost my voice for about 8 months after having surgery. I didn’t tell anyone about that. I kept it a secret because I was afraid that if I spoke, I wouldn’t be able to do what I wanted to do. The fear of losing my voice was huge”.

She continued, “While filming ‘Refund Sisters’, I was worried a lot about my voice. At that time, I received great help from Yoo Jae Suk and gained more courage. He took me to a vocal academy and gave me herbal medicine”.

The two got close to each other through the promotion of the project group ‘Refund Sisters’ formed through MBC’s program “Hangout with Yoo”. Yoo Jae Suk reportedly paid for 10 vocal lessons to help Uhm Jung Hwa overcome her fear of singing after the thyroid cancer surgery. Later, Uhm Jung Hwa repaid Yoo Jae Suk by giving him a luxury padded coat worth 2 million won.

Regarding the padded coat gift, Yoo Jae Suk shared, “The padded coat Uhm Jung Hwa gave me is still at my home. I cherish it and wear it quite often. Not only me but my wife Kyung Eun also wears it. It’s a cool coat”, creating a warm atmosphere.

In the meantime, Uhm Jung Hwa, who has overcome her fear and recognized the changed voice as ‘hers’, confidently said, “My voice is getting better, I’m getting it back. I recovered after talking to people and performing acting. However, when I look at the comments, some people are still worrying, such as ‘your voice is shaking’ or ‘it must be hurt’. It’s not hurt at all. I hope everyone will accept my voice as it is now. I’m totally okay”. She confessed, “Sometimes my voice cracked and I kept comparing it to my old voice, wondering ‘Why isn’t it working?’. I thought it was a disadvantage and tried to hide it, then I felt worse and kept covering myself. If you accept it, saying ‘this is me’, you can get rid of that fear. I live my voice now.”
