As the nominations for the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards were revealed, it drew attention that Yoo Jae Suk who has been active across both YouTube and television was completely absent from the list.

On April 13, the organizing committee of the Baeksang Arts Awards announced this year’s nominees through its official channels. The evaluation period covered films, broadcasts (including dramas and variety shows), and theater productions released from April of last year to March 31 this year. Notably, a musical category was newly introduced this year.

For the Best Variety Show category, nominees included MBC’s Extreme84, The Wonder Coach, SBS’s The Ballad of Us, Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars 2, and Coupang Play’s The White Collars Season 2.

The Best Male Variety Performer nominees were Kwak Beom, Kian84, Kim Jun Ho, and Choo Sung Hoon. Meanwhile, the female category featured Kim Yeon Koung, Seol In Ah, Lee Su Ji, Jang Do Yeon, and Hong Jin Kyung.

Following the announcement, some viewers questioned why Yoo Jae Suk who is currently active in multiple hit programs such as You Quiz on the Block, Hangout with Yoo, SBS’s Whenever Possible, and the YouTube web variety show Punghyanggo 2 on the DdeunDdeun channel was not nominated in any category.

Previously, Punghyanggo Season 1 had been nominated for Best Variety Show at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards, with Yoo Jae Suk also earning a nomination for Best Male Variety Performer. At the 60th ceremony in 2024, he was likewise nominated in the same category for his work on Pinggyego, proving his consistent presence in the industry.

However, his most recent win in the category dates back to the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2020, where he took home Best Male Variety Performer in the TV division for Hangout with Yoo.

Despite the lack of nominations this year, Yoo Jae Suk continues to demonstrate strong popularity. According to Good Data Fundex rankings from March 23 to March 29, he placed No.5 in the non-drama performer buzz category. His shows Hangout with Yoo and You Quiz on the Block also ranked No.4 and No.8, respectively, highlighting his enduring influence as the nation’s top MC.

Additionally, Punghyanggo 2, released in January, surpassed 10 million views on YouTube, while the 100th episode special of Pinggyego, released on March 14, recorded over 12 million views, maintaining strong buzz online.

Amid this situation, some netizens have responded by saying that “it’s time to give opportunities to younger entertainers,” drawing attention to the upcoming final results for the grand prize and major awards categories.
