“Are you trying to get caught?”… Yoo Jae-suk’s past remarks are being re-examined amid Yoo Hee-yeol’s plagiarism controversy

While singer-songwriter Yoo Hee-yeol continues to be embroiled in plagiarism allegations, Yoo Jae-suk’s remarks in the past are being re-examined.

When appearing on MBC’s “Infinite Challenge Music Festival” in 2013, Yoo Hee-yeol revealed sample songs he had made himself with Yoo Jae-suk.

Yoo Hee-yeol said, “This song has a genre called New Jack Swing in the early 90s. It’s a homage to Deux and Hyun Jin-young’s two songs.”

However, Yoo Jae-suk soon hardened his expression and pointed out, “Isn’t this Hyun Jin-young’s song ‘You In My Faded Memories’?”

Yoo Hee-yeol then played another song, but Yoo Jae-suk pointed out the similarity to GD‘s “Crooked” and said angrily, “What are you doing now? Are you trying to get caught?”

Earlier, Yoo Hee-yeol was accused of plagiarizing the song “Aqua” by Sakamoto Ryūichi, a Japanese film music master.

Afterwards, Yoo Hee-yeol posted a long statement through Antenna’s official SNS to acknowledge and apologize for plagiarism. However, there has been a widespread claim that Sung Si-kyung’s “Happy Birthday to You”, which Yoo Hee-yeol wrote, composed and arranged, is similar to Koji Tamaki’s “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ~愛が生まれた~” (released in 1998).

Besides, a claim was raised that Yoo Hee-yeol’s “Time I Turn On” and Sakamoto Ryūichi’s “1900” are similar. Some people also argued that Yoo Hee-yeol may have plagiarized the group Public Announcement’s “Body Bumpin” to make “Please Don’t Go My Girl” (released at MBC’s “Infinite Challenge – Jayu-ro Music Festival”).

In addition, a total of 5 songs have been suspected of plagiarism, including the claim that Sung Si-kyung’s “Goodbye , My Love” is similar to Japanese singer Noriyuki Makihara’s “GREEN DAYS”.
