On December 12th, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Division 25-1 held the first trial for Yoo Ah-in and his acquaintance A on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Yoo Ah-in appeared in court for the first time since he was indicted by the prosecution. Showing up in a black suit, the actor said, “I apologize for causing concern. In the defendant’s seat, Yoo Ah-in remained silent on all matters except for the confirmation of his identity. When asked about his job, he replied, “Actor”.

Mentioning the trial delay, the court stated, “The defendant’s side requested the change of trial date twice but the request was rejected because it has been two months since the indictment”. In response, Yoo Ah-in’s defense team explained that they requested it because they had not completed the reviewing of evidence.

Yoo Ah-in’s lawyer continued, “The defendants only acknowledged the joint crime of smoking marijuana”, adding “There are significant differences and exaggerations in remaining allegations. There are numerous aspects that need deep examinations in terms of factual and legal principles”.

They emphasized, “We have not yet completed the review of evidence records. There are still many statements from related people, such as the medical expert”, then asked for a further evidence review.

As the prosecution pointed out some parts had not been specified in the indictment, the court requested the prosecution to specify them by the next trial and asked the defendant’s side to organize their statements in writing then ended the trial within 30 minutes.

After the trial, Yoo Ah-in responded to the media regarding his drug charges, saying “I will sincerely clarify them in the upcoming trials”.

Meanwhile, Yoo Ah-in is accused of habitually administering a total of four medical drugs, including propofol, midazolam, ketamine and remimazolam, and sleeping pills by receiving prescriptions under the name of someone else. Yoo Ah-in’s acquaintance A was also indicted without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Act, threatening, and evading crimes.

The second trial for Yoo Ah-in and A will take place on January 23rd, 2024.
