This is what a serial drama should be like… The reason “Taxi Driver 2” soars in ratings right after its release

The unusual viewership chart of “Taxi Driver 2” is drawing keen attention from drama fans.

According to Nielsen Korea, the new broadcast (episode 4) of SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama “Taxi Driver 2” aired on February 25th recorded a nationwide viewer rating of 11.3%. “Taxi Driver 2” started with 12.1% in episode 1 released on February 17th, then achieved 10.3% and 13.2% in episodes 2 and 3, boasting a higher rating performance than in Season 1.

“Taxi Driver 2” is currently competing with tvN’s “Crash Course in Romance”, starring Jeon Do Yeon & Jung Kyung Ho, and JTBC’s “Agency”, starring Lee Bo Young. All these three dramas are maintaining stable ratings in the 10% range.

It is reasonable that “Taxi Driver 2” started off well with the momentum from its previous work “Payback”, which ended with an impressive double-digit rating. However, considering the fact that “Crash Course in Romance” and “Agency” are all right ahead of their ends, the performance of “Taxi Driver 2” is beyond expectation.

Crash Course in Romance

“Taxi Driver 2” leads its existing fans to sit in front of the TV as they were by continuing the story of Season 1 and at the same time, begins to attract new viewers with more interesting developments. The absence of Kang Ha Na (Esom), who investigated Rainbow Taxi Company and questioned ‘Are they doing the right things?’, was filled by the close relationship of Rainbow Taxi members that has been strengthened and the unexpected private revenge episodes.

Above all, Season 2 allows the audience to feel the continuity of its story by reusing the OSTs of Season 1 and making supporting characters, such as Ms. Rim (Shim So Young), return as cameos. The drama also increased viewers’ immersion by showing the fast developments that they want.

Lee Je Hoon, who plays Kim Do Ki, leads Rainbow Taxi with his charismatic appearance but at the same time captivates fans with his bold transformations into new sub-characters. Pyo Ye Jin, who acts as Ahn Dae Eun, also presents a new side of her by going back and forth between her main job as a hacker and her alternate character.

In addition, the performance of Kim Eui Sung, Jang Hyuk Jin, Bae Yoo Ram and Shin Jae Ha is also one of the reasons that make viewers immerse themselves in “Taxi Driver 2”. Enjoying the faster speed of the story and the closer relationship of Rainbow Taxi team members, many people are already raising hopes for Season 3.

Starting with “Taxi Driver 2”, “Dr. Romantic” and “The First Responders” are also ready to launch new seasons. “7 Escape”, which is scheduled to air in the second half of this year, has already confirmed the production of Season 2.

“Taxi Driver 2”, which is motivating SBS series with its positive energy, airs every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m.
