IVE leader An Yu Jin has sparked discussion after sharing her honest stance on fans using AI tools like ChatGPT to write letters to her.
During a recent fansign event, the topic of AI-generated messages came up when a fan mentioned how commonly ChatGPT is used nowadays — even for homework assignments.
When the fan said, “But these days a lot of people use ChatGPT, like for homework,” Yujin calmly replied, “That may be true, but this is a letter for me.”
The fan then explained that they are not good at expressing emotions and asked whether it would be okay to get a little help from AI. Yujin, however, remained firm in her position.

“Even so, if you’re going to use ChatGPT, it’s better not to write one at all. I’m saying this in advance. When I read a letter and can feel that you used ChatGPT, I won’t go easy on you. For me, that’s not okay.”
Her blunt yet sincere response quickly circulated among fans online. Many interpreted her comments as a reflection of how much she values authenticity and personal effort over polished wording.
As the leader of IVE, Yujin has often emphasized genuine communication with fans. For her, the emotional weight of a handwritten letter appears to matter more than perfect grammar or beautifully structured sentences.

The conversation has also sparked a broader debate within fandom spaces about the use of AI in personal interactions. While some argue that tools like ChatGPT can help fans articulate feelings they struggle to express, others agree with Yujin’s perspective that sincerity should come directly from the heart — imperfections and all.
Regardless of where fans stand in the discussion, Yujin’s clear message was simple: when it comes to letters meant just for her, authenticity comes first.
