Top actors Song Joong-ki, Kim Hye-soo and Ji Sung to greet the small screen viewers with their highly-anticipated dramas in the second half of 2022

Trustworthy actors will heat up home theaters in the second half of this year with their comebacks.

Song Joong-ki will return with “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”, while Ji Sung heralds amazing performances with “Adamas” and Kim Hye-soo raises expectations for “Shrub”. In addition, many fans are also looking forward to Han Ji-hyun and Bae In-hyuk’s youth drama.

Will Song Joong-ki once again create a legendary character with “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”?

Song Joong-ki’s new drama “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate” (written by Kim Tae-hee, Kim Eun-jae/ directed by Jeong Dae-yun) is considered a noteworthy drama on JTBC in the second half of this year. Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate” tells the story that happens when a secretary and risk manager of a chaebol family reincarnates as the youngest son of that family and begins to live his second life. Song Joong-ki, who made a huge success with his comeback with “Vincenzo” after a 2-year hiatus last year, is expected to continue his good performance with this new drama.

Song Joong-ki rose to stardom after starring in KBS 2TV’s “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, “Nice Guy”, SBS’s “Deep Rooted Tree”, and the movie “A Werewolf Boy”. Later, he led KBS 2TV’s hit drama “Descendants of the Sun”, which broke the highest viewer rating record by reaching 38.8% (based on households nationwide, provided by Nielsen Korea). In “Descendants of the Sun”, he performed passionately as Yoo Si-jin, which is still considered a representative character of his acting career.

In “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”, Song Joong-ki will play Yoon Hyun-woo, who was falsely accused and abandoned by the Sunyang chaebol family to which he was loyal. Afterward, Yoon Hyun-woo reincarnates as Jin Do-joon, the youngest son of Sunyang family, and tries to take over the Sunyang Group. Song Joong-ki will play two roles, Yoon Hyun-woo and Jin Do-joon, at the same time. Attention is focused on whether Song Joong-ki will be able to create a representative character again with “The Youngest Son of a Conglomerate”, which contains a hero-like narrative of the male lead.

Ji Sung, who is famous for his ability to portray characters with multiple personalities, will play a double role in “Adamas”

tvN’s “Adamas” (scripted by Choi Tae-kang/ directed by Park Seung-woo), in which actor Ji Sung plays a double role, is set to air for the first time on July 27th. “Adamas” tells the story of twin brothers in which the older brother Song Soo-hyun seeks the real culprit to clear the charges on their biological father, while the younger brother Ha Woo-shin looks for Adamas, the evidence of the murder.

Ji Sung will play the confident prosecutor Song Soo-hyun and the calm and rational mysterious author at the same time, making the viewers curious about how he will portray two characters with opposite personalities. Above all, Ji Sung has proved excellent acting skills by playing a character with 7 identities in the 2015 drama “Kill Me, Heal Me”, raising expectations for his performance with the double role this time. In addition, fans are also wondering whether Ji Sung will continue to make a not success, following “The Devil Judge”, “Run”, “Familiar Wife”, “Secret Love” and “Innocent Defendant”.

“Shrub” Kim Hye-soo, how about trying a historical drama after 20 years?

Kim Hye-soo’s new tvN drama “Shrub” (written by Park Ba-ra/ directed by Kim Hyung-sik) is also set to be released in the second half of this year. “Shrub” is a historical drama that tells about royal troubles and the Royal Family Education of the Joseon Dynasty when the Queen struggles to turn the troublemaker prince into the crowned prince.

The work is drawing much attention since this is the first historical drama that Kim Hye-soo takes on in about 20 years since the 2022 drama “Jang Hee-bin”. Kim Hye-soo, who has made many character transformations as a regular employee, a detective, a lawyer, and even a judge in dramas “The Queen of Office”, “Signal”, “Hyena”, and “Juvenile Justice”, attempts to transform her image into a Queen who tries to educate the troublemaker prince in “Shrub”. In order to make her son become the king, Kim Hye-soo will show off her charms as a feisty and strict mother.

From Han Ji-hyun to Bae In-hyuk… SBS will release their first youth drama “Cheer Up” in 23 years

A drama starring a large number of young stars is also waiting to greet the audience in the second half of this year. SBS plans to present “Cheer Up”, its first campus drama in 23 years since “KAIST”. “Cheer Up” tells the story of young people gathering for a cheering squad and captures both the coolness of campus mystery and the joy of a romantic comedy.

In addition, “Cheer Up” stars Han Ji-hyun, who proved her solid acting skills through “Penthouse”, and rising star Bae In-hyuk. In addition to the two, Kim Hyun-jin, Jang Gyu-ri, Lee Eun-sam and Yang Dong-geun also join the cast. These young actors are already raising expectations for their enthusiastic acting in SBS’s first campus drama after a long time.
