The following idol-turned actors will altogether return to the screen in big projects scheduled to release in late 2021 and early 2022.

1. IU
After her successful roles in the TV dramas “My Mister” and “Hotel Del Luna”, IU will meet the viewers again in two new theatrical films, “Broker” and “Dream”.
In “Broker” by the director who won the Palme d’Or at 2018 Cannes Film Festival – Hirokazu Koreeda, IU plays a young single mom. The film revolves around the “baby boxes” where parents who don’t have the ability to take care of their infants after giving birth, can leave the babies anonymously for them to be adopted. “Broker” has reportedly been selected for a nomination at the Cannes Film Festival even though filming is not yet completed. This news has made the audiences look forward to IU’s debut movie even more.
“Dream” will mark IU and Park Seo Joon‘s first on-screen collaboration. IU plays the role of Lee So Min – the production director who is working on a documentary about a street soccer team. “Dream”, directed by Extreme Job’s Lee Byung Hun, follows Yoon Hong Dae (Park Seo Joon) – a professional soccer player who is appointed to be the coach of a soccer team as a disciplinary measure. He then guides an amateur team to compete for the Homeless World Cup. During this journey, Hong Dae meets Lee So Min (IU), who is making a documentary about his team.
Both films are expected to premiere in early 2022 but no specific date is set.
2. D.O.
Debuting as an actor in 2014, D.O. is one of the few male idols who is appreciated for having both visuals and acting skills. In the near future, D.O. will make a comeback as the male lead in 3 movie projects.
D.O. will return in “Secret”, “Along With The Gods 3” and “The Moon”. In Secret, the EXO member plays the male lead which was played by Jay Chou in the original Taiwanese film. “The Moon” is a sci-fi film with the participation of Sol Kyung Gu and “The World of The Married”’s star Kim Hee Ae. In “The Moon”, D.O. takes on the role of an isolated man in outer space. In addition, he will also return to be the male lead Won Il Byung in the 3rd installment of “Along With The Gods” – one of the box office hits of the fantasy genre of Korean cinema. D.O. is expected to achieve great success as an actor in the upcoming year.
3. Sooyoung
Originally a popular member of the “Nation’s girl group” SNSD, Sooyoung has garnered much attention when following the acting path. In 2022, Sooyoung will be the next on-screen romantic partners of Ji Chang Wook and Jang Geun Suk in two dramas, “Tell Me Your Wish” and “Accidental Country Diary”.
In “Tell Me Your Wish”, the actress plays Seo In Joo – a nurse with a lively personality who brings hope to patients. In “Accidental Country Diary”, Sooyoung will become a kindhearted police officer who often helps people in need. She also helps Jang Geun Suk‘s character solve inconveniences related to his everyday life. They then develop feelings for each other.
4. Cha Eun Woo

The idol actor will play the role of a Catholic exorcist and priest who always feels guilty for not being able to protect a girl in the drama “Island”. The fantasy exorcism TV series depicts the story of 3 main characters who are seemingly unrelated but end up teaming up to protect each other and fight destructive evil on an island.
“Decibel” is a movie about the terrorist attack that happens in the city center, after the incident that happened a year ago on a submarine. Important characters such as the naval commander, reporters and members of the Defense Security Support Command work together to find a way to stop the bomb. Decibel is one of the most anticipated movies of 2022 and features a star-studded cast including Kim Rae Won, Lee Jong Suk, and Cha Eun Woo.
Besides, the visual idol actor has recently confirmed to star in “Dak Gang Jeong” by famous director Lee Byung Hun as the male lead.
5. Yoona
Yoona is currently filming the drama “Big Mouth” in which she plays Go Mi Ho – Lee Jong Suk‘s wife. From someone who is pretty, elegant and perfect, Go Mi Ho gradually turns into a selfish, rude, and shameless woman when she has to do the housework while taking care of her husband’s work.
Yoona will also pair up with “Chief Hong” of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”, actor Kim Seon Ho in the romantic comedy “2 O’Clock Date”. The movie tells a story of two characters who constantly encounter each other and develop a romantic relationship.
