“The Idol” Draws Inspiration from Christina Aguilera: A “Sweaty and Messy” Vibe

The main character of “The Idol” played by Lily-Rose Depp is well aware of her own sexual appeal.

HBO’s six-episode drama “The Idol,” which has sparked much controversy since its release, depicts the intertwining of a popular pop idol star with a pseudo-religious cult leader against the backdrop of Los Angeles. Lily-Rose Depp portrays the main character Jocelyn.

Jocelyn is reportedly inspired by famous pop singers Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. Previously, co-creator Sam Levinson stated that he did not model the two after them.

However, Variety reported on June 21st that “The Idol” makeup artist Kristen Coleman referred to Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears to create Jocelyn.

Kristen Coleman said, “Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are the stars that inspired us. When Jocelyn performs as a pop star on stage, she appears as those two.

In particular, Aguilera’s music video for “Dirrty” became the reference point for Jocelyn’s music video shoot in Episode 2 of “The Idol.”

Kristen Coleman explained, “Aguilera’s vibe is very hot, sweaty, messy, and very sexy. Jocelyn’s femme fatale energy comes from the way she expresses herself with makeup and costumes that emphasize sexuality.”

Coleman added, “Jocelyn is not a fragile woman. She knows that she is sexually confident and beautiful.

Meanwhile, “The Idol” stars not only Lily-Rose Depp but also BLACKPINK’s Jennie, making headlines. It can be watched through the American OTT platform HBO Max.
