Kim Hye-soo Looks Back On Her Career And Heralds New Beginning, “Blue Dragon Was With Me Throughout My Youth”
Kim Hye-soo mentioned her leaving the MC position at the Blue Dragon Film Festival during an interview marking the 10,000 issue of Sports Chosun. She said, “I didn’t know I would do it for such a long time. I don’t know if I have any secret for the long run”.
She shared, “I have gradually learned to make more careful judgments after going through numerous trials and errors. Even now, I always ask myself whether I deserve such a scene before going to the set. I’ve missed many opportunities even as an adult and I wonder whether I can make the right choices sometimes. That’s why I’m focusing on my duties. Like everyone else, I’m also striving to complete my choices”.
Kim Hye-soo also thanked fans for having supported her for such a long time. She said, “I slowly grew as an actor and as a person. That’s why I’ll appreciate it if everyone can wait for me and follow for a longer time”.
Revealing that she did experience slumps many times, the actress confessed, “Sometimes the slumps were shown, but sometimes even close acquaintances did not know I was having a slump. Sometimes, the pain seemed endless. There were moments when I had to continue doing things no one would acknowledge and my sincerity was distorted. I felt lonely as if everyone had turned their backs on me sometimes”, adding “Looking back on the slumps, it seems I focused more on how I filled those painful times and how I endured them, rather than setting a goal to overcome them”.
Kim Hye-soo’s success did not take place overnight. The secret of her long run is definitely the actress’s constant reflection and hard work. Such efforts could be proved by her appearance at the Blue Dragon Film Awards every year. Starting with the 14th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1993, Kim Hye-soo had been in charge of hosting the event until the 44th awards ceremonies, except for the one in 1998. As such, her final Blue Dragon MC appearance drew keen attention.
Expressing feelings about her farewell to the Blue Dragon Film Awards, Kim Hye-soo said, “In 2022, I read articles related to the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards and realized that it was my 29th time hosting the event. At that moment, I decided to wrap up 2023 with my final MC appearance. I think finishing in the 30th award ceremonies is a nice end for me and for everyone”.
Said to be the longest film in Kim Hye-soo’s filmography, the Blue Dragon Film Awards presented impressive ending credits of the actress saying goodbye with her smile throughout her “most beautiful time”, leaving viewers with a strong resonance and deep lingering feeling.
Lastly, Kim Hye-soo shared, “The Blue Dragon Film Awards was with me throughout my youth. It was the longest project in my life. I believe that through the Blue Dragon Film Awards every year, my self-awareness and perspective as an actor also grew.
