“The Glory” actress was handed over to prosecution for illegal act

Actress Son Sook was handed over to the prosecution for committing an illegal act.

On July 3rd, Yonhap News reported, “The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s anti-corruption and public crime investigation unit sent 8 people, including actress Son Sook (79), to the prosecution late last month on charges of receiving expensive golf clubs from a golf club distributor.

The police also handed over 4 people, including the distributor’s CEO who handed them golf clubs, to the prosecution.

According to the police, they are accused of receiving golf clubs worth more than 1 million won from a golf club distributor between 2018 and 2021 (violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act).

According to the current Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, public officials cannot be given money and valuables exceeding 1 million won at a time or 3 million won per fiscal year.

Among the suspects is Booyoung’s chairman Lee Hee Beom (74), who served as Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and chairman of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.

Meanwhile, Son Sook is an actress who served as Minister of Environment in 1999 during the Kim Dae Jung government. She was working for a public organization when she received golf clubs. She also served as chief director of the Seoul Arts Center. She recently appeared on Netflix’s “The Glory”.

In the drama, Son Sook consoled the young “Moon Dong Eun”, who was about to make an extreme choice in the river because she was pessimistic about her situation after being bullied at school, saying, “Let’s die in the spring.”
