“Strong Girl Nam-soon” first performance surpasses “Strong Girl Bong-soon”

“Nam-soon” Lee Yoo-mi’s first performance surpassed that of “Bong-soon” Park Bo-young

JTBC’s drama “Strong Girl Nam-soon” made a strong start with a viewership rating of 4.3% (Nielsen Korea nationwide standard) from its first broadcast. It serves as a spin-off to “Strong Girl Bong-soon”, which aired 6 years ago. It is a drama about mothers and daughters of three generations who were born with superpowers digging into the reality of new drug crimes in Gangnam.

The first episode of “Strong Girl Bong-soon” achieved a viewership rating of 3.8%, and “Strong Girl Nam-soon” surpassed it with 4.3%. The airing time for episode 1 of “Strong Girl Nam-soon” coincided with the final matches of the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, which may have affected the ratings. Competing dramas were delayed or canceled due to Asian Games coverage, which also had an impact.

What sets “Strong Girl Nam-soon” apart from other hero-themed dramas is that it features three generations of women as the heroes. Characters range from a woman in her 20s (Lee Yoo-mi) to one in her 40s (Kim Jung-eun) and even a woman in her 60s (Kim Hae-sook). The drama combines elements of melodrama, comedy and action, offering a diverse viewing experience.

The show’s first episode introduced the dynamic journey of Gang Nam-soon, a girl with superhuman strength who travels from Mongolia back to Korea and holds a powerful welcoming ceremony upon her return. The fantasy elements, such as the object Gang Nam-soon (Lee Yoo-mi) throws from Mongolia hitting Gang Hee-sik (Ong Seong-wu)’s head in Korea and Gang Nam-soon landing safely after jumping off a flying plane, captured viewers’ attention.

The drama features a strong ensemble cast, including Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Jung-eun, Kim Hae-sook, Ong Seong-wu and Byeon Woo-seok. Additionally, special appearances by Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik from “Strong Girl Bong-soon” add to the excitement. With only one episode broadcast so far, “Strong Girl Nam-soon” has already generated buzz, and viewers are eager to see how the story unfolds.

Starting from Oct 13th, “Strong Girl Nam-soon” will go head-to-head with other dramas like MBC’s “My Dearest Part 2”, SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven”, tvN’s “Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun”, tvN’s “Castaway Diva” and ENA’s “Evilive”. The work aims to continue the success of JTBC’s weekend dramas that have been well-received, such as “Reborn Rich”, “Agency”, “Divorce Attorney Shin”, “Doctor Cha”, “King the Land” and “Behind Your Touch”.
