Stars with family debts: Han So Hee’s name used by mother, Shim Hyung Tak kicked out of his house

Various celebrities endured sufferings due to controversies created by their family members, including Han So Hee, Shim Hyung Tak, and more.

Five years ago, the entertainment industry was shaken by the “DebtToo” issue, which is still ongoing. Parents borrow money using the fact that their child is a celebrity, leading to the child being labeled with a “debt scandal”.

The exposure of celebrities’ family debts still draws public attention. Mentioning top stars’ names in negative issues related to debt brings about reactions similar to those caused by serious crimes.

An example of a star who suffered from family debt is actor Shim Hyung Tak, who confessed to his mother’s wrongful investment after ending a 2-year hiatus and returning to broadcasting. At the time, Shim Hyung Tak managed to get his first house after 15 years since debut, only for his mother to destroy all his assets.

“It took a long time before I knew of my mother’s action. Every time I went home, I had to get permission to go in”, the actor said.

In 2016, Shim Hyung Tak then moved to an apartment in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, with a view of the Han River. However, even this was caught in a mortgage due to his mother’s wrongful investment, and he was kicked out without receiving a penny. “I couldn’t even take a single piece of furniture. The house suddenly sold at auction and the owner changed“, the actor revealed.

Shim Hyung Tak, who even had to take sleeping pills due to his mother’s investment failure, suffered from severe hallucinations and eventually had to leave the entertainment industry for a while.

Microdot

On another note, the most well-known star when it comes to “family debt scandal” is Microdot. At the time, Microdot reached the peak of his career after appearing on Mnet’s “Show Me the Money 4” in 2018 and joining Channel A’s “The Fishermen and the City”, only to face a serious controversy. In particular, Microdot’s parents were accused of having borrowed about 400 million won from 14 relatives and acquaintances while running a dairy farm in Jecheon, Chungbuk from 1990 to 1998, and fleeing to New Zealand without repaying the money, which led to a halt in his activities.

Top actress Han So Hee also experienced a similar controversy. Han So Hee’s mother accumulated a huge debt by using the actress’ name. It was revealed that Han So Hee’s mother had opened a bank account without her daughter’s knowledge when Han So Hee was a minor and used it to borrow money. Han So Hee’s mother was also involved in a document forgery case.

As a result, Han So Hee showed a firm stance that she had no plans to take responsibility for her mother’s debt. She also vowed to completely block her mother’s actions, which abused the actress’ fame and exploited her image.

Actress Cha Ye Ryun also reportedly paid off all of her father’s 1 billion won debt. Cha Ye Ryun, who lived alone with her mother after her parents’ divorce, was known to have repaid the debt after learning about her father’s debt scandal.

In addition to the aforementioned stars, other celebrities such as Jang Yoon Jung, Park Bo Gum, Han Go Eun, and Cho Yeo Jeong, have also been suspected of getting involved in “debt scandals” due to their celebrity status, despite having cut off contact with their parents.

Parent-child relationships are said to be a treasure, but not all of these “fateful connections” are good. Both the victims of the fraud and the children who are tarnished because of their parents face great difficulties.
