Male Idols Speak Out Against Sasaeng Fans’ Invasion of Privacy: Crime Disguised as Affection

From BTS to NCT, these male idols are victims of sasaeng fans’ intolerable behavior.

SM Entertainment has announced legal action against a sasaeng fan who intruded into NCT Jaehyun’s hotel room. Many idols are suffering from invasion of privacy and stalking by fans whose actions deviate from normal fan sentiment.

On August 22nd, SM Entertainment stated, “As an illegal act seriously infringing upon the artist’s privacy, we are collecting evidence against those who initially uploaded and subsequently redistributed the content. We will request cooperation from domestic and international sites and law firms to ensure a thorough investigation by relevant authorities.”

Recently, several videos were spread on Twitter, showing a sasaeng fan invading the hotel room where NCT stayed during their U.S. schedule. The fan used a hotel key card to enter the room and filmed Jaehyun’s personal belongings and items.

Last November, a sasaeng fan invaded the residence of NCT Haechan, leading to prosecution by the authorities. BTS members RM and Jungkook also suffered due to sasaeng fans.

In March, RM expressed his discomfort by capturing an article about a Korail employee, A, who illicitly accessed his personal information and posting it on his own social media with a “^^;;” emoticon. A unlawfully accessed RM’s ticket information, address, and phone number on 18 separate occasions.

Jungkook also publicly warned fans who were sending food deliveries to his home. In May, he said on Weverse, “Please do not send food deliveries to my house. I won’t eat them. I appreciate the gesture, but I take care of my own meals.”

He continued, “If you send it again, I’ll track down the order using the receipt number and take action. So, please stop.”

Not only BTS but other K-pop idols also lamented the distress caused by fans’ extreme behavior. Kim Junsu revealed, “They used our IDs to expose our phone conversations. They secretly placed GPS trackers on our cars and followed us around. They even invaded our accommodations, taking photos of personal items. They went as far as trying to kiss me while I was asleep and intentionally caused a minor traffic accident just to see my face.”

Kim Junsu expressed the emotional pain, “Every day, I felt suffocated by the agony. Everywhere I went, I was surrounded, captured on camera, recorded, and touched without permission. Our daily lives crumbled under this repetitive cycle of invasion.”

He pleaded with these sasaeng fans, “Amidst this indescribable suffering, I ask you to please allow us a minimum of humane life.”

EXO members took turns guarding each other due to sasaeng fans who followed them into restrooms and took pictures. Baekhyun’s brother’s wedding was also disrupted by a sasaeng fan’s photography. Chanyeol felt threatened by a sasaeng fan who intruded into his private workspace.

SEVENTEEN also resorted to legal action against sasaeng fans who invaded their dorms and caused issues. Pledis Entertainment stated, “Despite previous notices, unauthorized intrusion into private locations (dorms, hotels, hair and makeup salons, etc.), as well as invading artists’ privacy within airport security zones, continue to occur. We will take legal action against sasaeng fans causing these problems.”

According to the agency, during SEVENTEEN’s recent world tour, some sasaeng fans repeatedly invaded the hotels where SEVENTEEN stayed, attempted unauthorized entry, excessively approached and conversed with members even in airport security zones, and filmed them.

Similarly, THE BOYZ handed a sasaeng fan over to the police. At the time, THE BOYZ’s agency, IST Entertainment, expressed that the artist, as well as their family and friends, were suffering from ongoing unauthorized intrusion into places related to their daily lives (office, salons, dorms), verbal abuse, and tailing their vehicles.
