So Ji-sub revealed the reason for his debut.
In episode 164 of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” (hereinafter referred to as “You Quiz”), which aired on Oct 12th, actor So Ji-sub appeared as a guest.
On this day, So Ji-sub confessed that he was a swimmer in high school and a standing member of the national water polo team before becoming an actor.
He recalled, “I was given 3 months of free time before entering college. While I was thinking about what to do, I had a friend who was attending a famous acting academy. One day, he showed me a newspaper and said, ‘There’s something like this, do you want to try it together?’ That was a jeans model contest.”
Won Bin and Song Seung-heon were his rivals at that time. So Ji-sub explained, “I don’t remember well, but Seung-heon talked to me. Won Bin was there, too.”
So Ji-sub used to be told not to act when he debuted. So Ji-sub drew attention by saying, “When I debuted, Jang Dong-gun, Han Jae-suk and Song Seung-heon were popular. They all have thick double eyelids and handsome faces. When I went to auditions, they said, ‘No, you can’t do it.’ I don’t have double eyelids and my eyes are small, so I was often told that I shouldn’t be an actor.”
