She wished her donation could spread love and relieve the struggle in the year-end period.
On January 2nd, IU was reported to have donated 10 million won to collect “briquettes of love” for the low-income residents in Yangpyeong-gun, the area where IU’s family lives. She has been donating to the needy of the neighborhood since 2020.
Jeon Jin-sun, governor of Yangpyeong-gun, said, “I am grateful to IU for her constant donations. The money will be used for heating support for the vulnerable.”
IU is a vigorous donor of the entertainment industry. Since her debut, she has been steadily donating to her financially struggling neighbors under the name “IUANA,” a combination of her fan club name, UAENA, and her stage name, IU.
Since her debut on September 18th, 2008, IU has had a rising career in the industry for the last 15 years. Only recently did she increase her donating amount to her neighbors. The externally known sum alone was worth a total of 900 million won in 2020 and a total of 1.67 billion won in 2021.
IU’s donation reached 920 million won in 2022. Starting with 10 million won to help Yangpyeong-gun’s neighbors in January, the singer donated 100 million won to victims of large forest fires in March, 100 million won to commemorate Children’s Day on May 5th, 210 million won to a series of funds in celebration of her birthday on May 16th, 100 million won for typhoon victims in August, 200 million won to welfare funds to commemorate her debut on September 18th.
IU said on December 30th through her agency EDAM Entertainment, “I wanted to share the love as I had a happier and more precious year than ever thanks to the love and support I received from many people. I hope all of my neighbors who are struggling ahead of the end of the year will not be left out.”
Recently, IU admitted on December 31 last year that she is in a relationship with Lee Jong-suk. She wrote a letter to her fans that read:
