September Debut War: YG’s BABYMONSTER, SM’s RIIZE, and More Set to Shake the K-pop Scene

September is heating up with a debut war for new idol groups, including BABYMONSTER, RIIZE, and POW.

In September, many K-pop fans are showing great interest in the debut competition, forming fandoms and generating high anticipation.

BABYMONSTER, set to debut in September, is YG Entertainment’s first girl group after BLACKPINK, with a lineup of seven members: Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Haram, Rora and Chiquita.

The producing for BABYMONSTER is led by Yang Hyun Suk. The group’s debut song is known to be a powerful hip-hop track, with the company bringing in famous overseas producers.

On August 1st, news of two boy groups’ debut was announced – SM Entertainment’s RIIZE and GRID Entertainment’s POW.

SM revealed the seven members of RIIZE, including Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Sunghan, Sohee, and Anton. Among them, Shotaro and Sungchan are former NCT members. Anton also garners attention as veteran singer Yoon Sang’s son.

RIIZE’s team name combines ‘Rise,’ meaning ‘to grow,’ and ‘Realize,’ meaning ‘to achieve,’ representing their aim to grow together and realize dreams. RIIZE is expected to present their own music genre called Emotional Pop. 

GRID Entertainment, founded by Sim Hye Jin, is a comprehensive entertainment company with a creative group that has been active in major domestic agencies. Their first group, the five-member boy group POW, includes Thai actor Yorch with over 2 million Instagram followers and SBS ‘LOUD’ participant Yoon Dongyeon, Jungbin, Hyunbin, and Hong.
