Kim Young Kwang and Lee Sung Kyung will perform melodramatic acting in Disney+’s series “Say That It’s Love”.
“Say That It’s Love” directed by Lee Kwang Young tells the story of Woo Joo (Lee Sung Kyung), who collapsed after finding out about her father’s affair and got kicked out of the house by the mistress, falling in love with Han Dong Jin (Kim Young Kwang), the son of the woman who ruined her life, while planning revenge.
At the 2022 Disney Content Showcase held in Singapore on December 1st, Lee Sung Kyung shared, “I can feel that Disney paid a lot of attention to our drama”.
Explaining how this drama is different from existing love stories, director Lee Kwang Young said, “It’s not a love at first sight or love that goes through ups and downs. It develops slowly, one step at a time. In this drama, they realize love slowly after getting closer to each other”.
Kim Young Kwang and Lee Sung Kyung have known each other since before but this is the first time they acted together. Kim Young Kwang shared, “I feel unfamiliar with Lee Sung Kyung’s appearance in this work. However, her mature gestures and voice tone helped me immerse in my character”. Lee Sung Kyung responded, “He appeared in front of my eyes like real Han Dong Jin. That really helped me act well”.
When asked if they had the feeling of love toward each other when immersing in their characters, Lee Sung Kyung said, “My heart shook a little bit when we made eye contact or was in the same space”. Kim Young Kwang added, “I remember that there were times when I did fall in love with her character in the drama.”
Director Lee Kwang Young said, “I heard many people in the editing room who saw the changes in the two actors’ eyes and expressions wonder if the two were actually dating”, adding “From the moment Dong Jin falls in love for Woo Joo, Woo Joo looks prettier. Her appearance does not change, but she still looks prettier in his eyes”, explaining Lee Sung Kyung and Kim Young Kwang’s chemistry.
On the same day, Lee Sung Kyung answered questions from Southeast Asian media outlets, saying “Our drama tells a realistic story that everyone can relate to”. Kim Young Kwang also agreed. Regarding the power of slow melodrama amid the trend of dramas with fast developments, director Lee said, “I made this work to give comfort and empathy to viewers”.
When asked about how they returned to their real person after finishing the drama, Kim Young Kwang said, “I naturally escaped from my old character while preparing for the next work”.
Revealing her next move, Lee Sung Kyung said, “I want to meet a work that can help me grow more as an actor”.
