NewJeans Makes History as First K-Pop Girl Group to Perform on U.S. ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’

NewJeans kicked off 2024 in style by delivering a spectacular performance on the New Year’s Eve special show on the U.S. ABC network, becoming the first K-pop girl group to do so. Airing live from 8:00 PM on December 31st (local time, 10:00 AM on January 1st in Korea), NewJeans appeared on the U.S. ABC broadcast ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024′ (‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’), showcasing two songs, “Super Shy” and “ETA.”

‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ is a highly-watched New Year’s Eve special program in the U.S., featuring performances by the year’s top pop stars at locations worldwide, including New York Times Square. This year, amidst a lineup that included prominent pop stars such as Post Malone, Ivy Queen, Cardi B, Jelly Roll, and Sabrina Carpenter, NewJeans stood out as the only K-pop artist, solidifying their status as a ‘global trend.’

NewJeans captivated viewers with their unique styling on that day. They maximized the appeal of high-teen fashion in a preppy look during “Super Shy” and demonstrated outstanding concept versatility in “ETA” through unconventional styling with distinctive accessories.

The grand stage adorned with large light sticks and elaborate setups was enough to enthral global fans. The lively rhythm of the “Super Shy” performance added energetic vibes through NewJeans and dancers’ walking dance choreography. During the “ETA” stage, members’ cheers and audience screams blended seamlessly. NewJeans’ distinctive performance using stand microphones showcased dynamic dance moves while highlighting their graceful stage manners. In this festival-like atmosphere, the members collectively shouted “Happy New Year,” heating up the venue.

In addition, on December 31st, NewJeans also appeared on Japan’s NHK year-end special music program ‘Hongbak Gayhapjeon.’ Having received high attention from Japanese media even before the performance as special invited artists, NewJeans left their mark with a special medley stage featuring “OMG,” “ETA,” and “Ditto.” Immediately after the stage, NewJeans’ songs climbed the ranks on major Japanese music charts, and the group trended in real-time on social media, creating a buzz of excitement.
