Netizens Pity 4th Gen K-pop Boy Groups: No Chance against Girl Groups, Now Lost to 5th Gen

Recently, a topic revolving around 4th Gen K-pop boy groups gained huge attention on the Chinese SNS platform Weibo.

In particular, the topic pointed out that 5th gen K-pop boy groups are doing extremely well on Korea’s most popular music platform MelOn, with TWS’s plot twist entering MelOn’s Top100 chart at 93, RIIZE’s “Get a Guitar” and “Love 119” peaking at the 13th and 5th positions, ZB1’s “In Bloom” once reaching the 63rd position, and PLAVE’s “Merry PLLLIstmas” peaking at 74.

Meanwhile, despite their huge international popularity, famous 4th gen K-pop boy groups, such as TREASURE, ENHYPEN, and Stray Kids, struggled to enter MelOn’s Top 100. TXT fared a bit better, but their latest comeback also did not do well on Korean music platforms.

As a result, many netizens express their “pity” for 4th gen K-pop boy groups, who went largely ignored in their home country due to Koreans having a prejudice.

According to these netizens, the 4th gen K-pop boy groups were outshined by 4th gen girl groups, and now by 5th gen boy groups as well, with little to no chance to rise in Korea.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • 5th gen boy groups entering MelOn’s Top100 like super easily while even the most popular 4th gen boy groups struggle to do so… The Koreans seriously have something against them
  • TWS and RIIZE are already doing well despite being rookies, great job
  • 4th gen boy groups are truly the unluckiest of the batch… They debuted went BTS dominated globally and could not rise, the general public held a prejudice against them because of the “noisy music assumption”, then they struggled against 4th gen girl groups and are now facing the rise of 5th gen boy groups ….
  • 4th gen boy groups basically have no chance to shine in Korea now…
  • The fact that “Dadari” and “Polaroid Love” failed to enter MelOn despite gaining popularity internationally is hilarious considering that 5th gen boy groups are doing it so easily now
  • At least the 4th gen boy groups are doing well globally and earning lots of money from tours. 5th gen boy groups are only gaining attention in Korea.
