Nam Tae-hyun, who is under suspicion of taking Philopon with broadcaster-influencer Seo Min-jae, expressed remorse for his actions
On Dec 7th, the Seoul Western District Court held the second trial of Nam Tae-hyun and Seo Min-jae on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
The prosecution demanded a sentence of 2 years for Nam Tae-hyun and 1 year and 6 months for Seo Min-jae.
Nam Tae-hyun’s lawyer appealed for leniency. The lawyer said, “Nam Tae-hyun relied on psychiatric and diet drugs during his idol career. When his income decreased due to COVID-19, he took Philopon for a moment of happiness.“
The lawyer added, “He’s making more serious efforts than anyone else to avoid repeating the same crime by voluntarily entering a drug rehabilitation facility. He also appeared on KBS 1TV’s ‘In-Depth 60 Minutes’, expressing remorse and a strong willingness to improve. In the future, he wants to become a positive influence as a drug rehabilitation preacher, influencing people struggling with drug addiction.”
Nam Tae-hyun also expressed a sense of reflection in his final statement. He confessed, “I’m currently in a drug rehabilitation facility, taking time every morning to reflect on myself. I’ve lived wrongly and wasted my life. No one told me to (take drugs); it was my choice. Now I want to correct myself and live a humane life.“
He went on to say, “In a society where drugs are a big problem, I want to take the lead in drug prevention so that many people do not make the same choice as me. I want to become a person who exerts a positive influence.“
Previously, the suspicion of Philopon use by the two arose when Seo Min-jae, a participant on Channel A’s “Heart Signal 3”, exposed the fact of taking drugs with Nam Tae-hyun on her SNS in August last year. They are accused of taking Philopon together at Seo Min-jae’s residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
In the first trial held last month, both admitted to the charges. During this process, Seo Min-jae also revealed that she had changed her name to Seo Eun-woo.
Nam Tae-hyun debuted as a member of Winner in 2014 but left the group 2 years later and formed the band South Club. In addition to the Philopon use suspicion, he was also booked for violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) in March this year.
