Former iKON member B.I tried to make the best image ever.
B.I recently released “Is this really necessary?” episode 2 on his YouTube channel. B.I went camping with 2 choreographers who had been working with him for a long time and enjoyed a barbecue. The three had a fun time playing games and had a sincere interview with the production team.
The three recalled their first meeting. One choreographer said, “I wouldn’t say cold-hearted, but perhaps impolite? But I was really shocked to learn just how well-mannered and respectful he is. I’ve never met someone who worked with so much passion. The more I met him, I thought to myself ‘This guy will go places’. I also had high expectations from the beginning because my mom’s a big fan. So I remember feeling excited.”
It is natural for staff members to praise artists’ personality on self-produced contents, but the problem is that public opinion about B.I is not good and related trials are underway.
In 2019, while being investigated by the police for smoking marijuana with BIGBANG T.O.P, Han, a former girl group trainee, stated that B.I’s drug purchase and use were not properly investigated. She also revealed that Yang Hyun-suk, former CEO of YG Entertainment (YG), called her to YG’s office building to threaten her and force her to reverse her statement. As Han reported this fact to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, B.I withdrew from the team and Yang Hyun-suk also resigned as YG’s CEO. At that time, B.I denied the allegation of drug use, “It is true that I had previously wanted to rely on things that I should not have even had interest in. But I was not even able to do it because I was afraid.” However, he eventually changed his position during the police investigation and admitted to taking drugs. Afterwards, B.I released an album 6 months before the first trial’s ruling was confirmed, showing no reflection at all. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison, 4 years of probation, 90 hours of community service, 40 hours of drug treatment lectures and a fine of 1.5 million won. He is under fire for pushing ahead with his activities even though the probation period is not over.
Besides, even though B.I’s trial is over, Yang Hyun-suk is still engaged in a legal battle. At the trial held on Nov 1st, Yang Hyun-suk said, “Most of the stories are not true. With concerns, I told Han not to take drugs and said ‘You have to become a nice person’. I spent about half of the time listening to her and comforting her. I never threatened her.” It is pointed out that while the person who discovered B.I is on trial for trying to cover up his drug case, it is too disloyal to make an image of “good personality”.
Anyway, B.I was selected as a fixed MC for Channel S and Wavve’s “WET! : World EDM Trend”, which will premiere on Nov 30th.
