The police have arrested a 28-year-old man after he threatens to kill 9 SM employees.
On August 11th, the Hanam Police Station in Gyeonggi province arrested A, a 28-year-old man, on charges of intimidation and obstruction of business and official duties.
Previously at around 1 PM on August 8th, A published an article on the Korean forum DC Inside, claiming that he will select 9 employees from SM Entertainment at the Seoul Forest Station and kill them.
According to A, since he was in highschool, which was over 10 years ago, he has been a fan of B – a member from a SM Entertainment girl group. A also claimed that he confessed his feelings to B via her Instagram messages but did not receive any reply, and so ended up writing the threatening words in a fit of rage.
However, the police considered A’s statement about their criminal behavior being “a momentary impulse due to anger” as unreliable. In fact, through the seizure and examination of A’s mobile phone, it was confirmed that the man planned extremely specific criminal actions.
It is known that A is working part-time without a specific job and is reportedly undergoing treatment for mental illness.
“A confessed to having tried every possible way to approach B and becoming frustrated over
not receiving any special response”, a police officer shared, adding, “He had set out an extremely detailed plan, including setting a specific day to commit the crime and planning how to post the threatening article as well as how to deal with the police afterward.”
