Gaining attention as a new work by ‘hit maker’ director Jung Ji Hyung, whose sensual directing skills received recognition through “Search: WWW” and “Twenty-five Twenty-one”, “Lies Hidden in My Garden” is also expected to be a well-made thriller starring trustworthy actors, such as Kim Tae Hee (as Moon Joo Ran), Lim Ji Yeon (as Chu Sang Eun), Kim Sung Oh (as Park Jae Ho) and Choi Jae Rim (as Kim Yoon Bum).

Kim Tae Hee makes her comeback on the small screen for the first time in three years, taking on the role of the protagonist Joo Ran, who lives a picturesque daily life in a perfect house but gets confused due to the smell of a dead body in the backyard. When asked about the reason for choosing “Lies Hidden in My Garden” as her comeback drama, Kim Tae Hee said, “After a long time, I finally met a script that made me feel so excited. I was interested in the story that begins when two different female characters living contrasting lives get entangled with each other and share their own stories. Personally, I was a bit unfamiliar with genre works, but Joo Ran was very realistic and relatable to me. That’s why I was drawn to this work.”

Above all, Kim Tae Hee stimulates fans’ anticipation with her first challenge of the thriller genre through “Lies Hidden in My Garden”. When asked if she had always wanted to act in thrillers, Kim Tae Hee said, “To be honest, I don’t usually enjoy the thriller genre.” She continued, “Regardless of the genre, I found the script very interesting to read, and as soon as I finish it, I naturally felt the desire to portray the character Joo Ran in a way that viewers can understand and empathize with”, raising viewers’ curiosity about the character Joo Ran that captivated Kim Tae Hee’s heart.

Explaining her character Joo Ran, Kim Tae Hee stated, “Joo Ran, who lived as her mother’s doll when she was young, believes that she finally achieved a happy family when marrying her first love Jae Ho after struggling with guilt and trauma due to her older sister’s sudden death. However, as her belief gradually gets shaken, she eventually breaks free from all the confines that kept her trapped and grows into an independent individual”, adding, “I wanted to support and cheer for Joo Ran. I approached the character considering that Joo Ran represents someone we can easily find around us who doesn’t believe in herself and is always anxious, someone who even takes psychiatric medication.”

In addition, Kim Tae Hee and Lim Ji Yeon’s acting chemistry is also arousing keen interest from the public. Regarding her feelings about working with Lim Ji Yeon, Kim Tae Hee expressed her gratitude, saying “Lim Ji Yeon paid keen attention to details and seriously portrayed the character of Sang Eun. She brought Sang Eun to life through her three-dimensional and realistic acting. Thanks to Lim Ji Yeon’s presence as Sang Eun herself on the set, I was able to immerse myself more easily into Joo Ran.”

As such, the combination of Kim Tae Hee’s complete immersion in her character, Lim Ji Yeon’s dedication and director Jung Ji Hyun’s delicate directing skills raises drama fans’ expectations for a high-quality mystery thriller.

She suggested, “It would be great if viewers could follow the psychological changes and inner struggles of a woman who gets anxious when she encounters the strange woman Sang Eun. It would also be very interesting to see how the two women with contrasting lives eventually influence each other”, adding “Considering that it’s an 8-episode drama, you can watch thinking it’s a long movie.
