Seo Jang Hoon and Lee Soo Geun listened to a storyteller who has an obsession and complex about appearance
The September 11th broadcast of KBS Joy’s program “Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller” showed a storyteller who shared the story about receiving psychiatric treatment for depression due to appearance obsession.
Revealing that he thought about making an extreme choice in the first year of high school, the storyteller confessed, “I felt pressured just thinking about my appearance”, adding “I feel lacking when looking at idols. I have a severe complex about my height. I’m 159cm tall. Since I didn’t get any taller, I went to check my growth plate, but I couldn’t accept the fact that it had already been done. I threw all my nutritional supplements and medicines that day. I felt very a great sense of inferiority.”
He continued, “Other people don’t say anything negative about me. They all say it’s fine and accept me as I am. But my self-satisfaction level is too low. I pay more attention to makeup and normally spend an hour on getting it done”.
The program then revealed several daily photos of the storyteller, and Seo Jang Hoon said the storyteller looked different in the photos. He commented, “The goal of your life is to look tall, cool, and handsome? Then how am I supposed to live when you’re much more handsome than me? Being tall is not always a good thing. Do you know how uncomfortable I felt when I was young? People used to say weird things every time I passed by. It was not easy at all”
Lee Soo Geun advised, “I was 158cm when I was your age. How do you think I lived back then? You have some skills but I did not have any. Nevertheless, I had a dream.”
Seo Jang Hoon asked, “Are you a drama’s main character? Or an actor? If you become a great writer, you won’t have to worry about such things. Many people would still like you”. He soothed the storyteller, saying “Think about how your parents treasured you when they gave birth to you and how well they raised you.”
In addition, Lee Soo Geun said, “There are many people who are suffering even more heartbreaking things than you do. You may shed tears if you know their stories. Like an old man, there’s a person who makes people laugh although he is small. That’s who you are. Why do you want to change yourself? Take off all the clothes that are not yours.”
