Lee Hyori Reveals the Story Behind Her Unflattering Reporter Photo, Admits to Undergoing a Skin Procedure

On October 24th, a video with Lee Hyori’s appearance was posted on the channel ‘Hong’s Makeup Play.’
In the video, Lee Hyori, who visited her long-time friend, the makeup shop owner, is seen receiving makeup. This shop had recently taken an embarrassing photo of Lee Hyori due to fan requests, which led to calls for an immediate makeover.
Lee Hyori chatted non-stop while getting her makeup done.
Lee Hyori expressed, “As I prepare for my comeback activities, I felt a gap. I don’t feel like the woman I saw on Instagram yesterday (referring to herself). Even my husband told me to bring that woman from yesterday.”
She added, “Today, I want to challenge something new with my makeup. I want it to be mature yet sophisticated, make me feel like I’ve shed something but still be captivating.” She explained, “I want smoky eyes but an upgraded, slightly pale complexion.”
Lee Hyori admitted, “I asked for an appointment with NewJeans’ makeup artist, but the company forgot about it, so I urgently contacted my long-time friend.” The makeup shop owner expressed gratitude and happiness for the reunion, “I’m grateful to the person from your company who forgot.”
Lee Hyori shared her thoughts on cosmetic procedures, saying, “I feel that cosmetic procedures give an unnatural appearance, and I have conflicts about it. Even a slight change is very noticeable on my face.”
She then mentioned having received Botox in her early 30s, but she found it strange because her eyes didn’t disappear when she smiled. She admitted to considering whether to have it done again.
Referring to her song “Miss Korea,” she said, “In my song, there’s a line that goes, ‘If I become more beautiful, should I stop doing anything?’ But now, I feel a sense of guilt and can’t do it.”
Lee Hyori, known for her pursuit of natural beauty, confessed to having received recent skin treatments. She explained, “Recently, I hadn’t been to a dermatologist at all. But, about a week before shooting a commercial as a courtesy to the advertisers, I got a Resuran treatment. It was so painful that it felt like a horror movie. I wasn’t sure if it had any effect, but it does seem to have improved a bit. Nowadays, I’m in Seoul, and I don’t know if it’s because of camera massages.”
Around 2000, Lee Hyori created a sensation, becoming a superstar. She expressed her concerns about being a trendsetter, “I recently went to Itaewon. When I was active, the trends were somewhat different. We used to have a certain beauty standard, and we followed that. These days, instead of following others like people with prominent cheekbones or a trendy cut, it seems like people have gained more self-confidence.”
She added, “Originally, we used to go abroad to get inspiration, but these days, it seems like I get inspired in Korea. I’m from Jeju, so even coming to Seoul stimulates me.”
Lee Hyori said, “We’re all aging. Let’s admit it, everyone. Even as we age, we can still be charming.”
However, she also noted, “Younger friends can get away with it when they’re a bit plumper, but it’s more noticeable when there’s no plumpness. It’s too late now. We have to accept it,” and commented on the impossibility of making something unnatural look natural.
Regarding her recently shot MV, she shared, “Honestly, I feel like something is missing. It feels like I just did it. In the past, I wore dozens of outfits and stayed up for two to three days shooting the MV. This time, I did my new song with just one makeup look, one style, and two outfits. It seems that it’s the right time for me to scale things down, but people might find it boring.”
When she saw a makeup process, she jokingly asked, ‘Is this a Grim Reaper makeup or a panda?’ She pointed out that the smoky style was different from what she had in mind and said, ‘It needs to have a presence.’
Lee Sang-soon’s recent status was also revealed. Lee Hyori said, ‘When I go to Seoul, my husband has to stay home without moving. But on weekends, he enjoys DJing and is happy.’
At a recent VIP screening of the movie ‘Dr. Cheon,’ where Lee Hyori stood at the photo wall, she said, ‘Originally, there wasn’t a photo shoot scheduled, so I did a simple basic makeup and applied lipstick at home, but the photo turned out innocent and nice.’
She added, ‘Because of that photo, I received too many inquiries from basic cosmetics brands, which was tough.’ Laughingly, she commented on her yellow eyebrows, ‘Fans might not like them today,’ and playfully told the director, ‘You’ll have to handle comments about the yellow eyebrows.’
In a subsequent interview with Akmu (Akdong Musician), Lee Hyori discussed the embarrassing photo, saying, ‘Actually, journalists did nothing wrong. Isn’t it a picture, not a painting?’ She casually commented, ‘The photo issue is my responsibility. If I really didn’t like it, I wouldn’t have posted it on my Instagram. But it was so funny, so I uploaded it once for fun.’
Later, Lee Hyori appeared on her close friend Jung Jae-hyung’s YouTube channel and expressed her thoughts, ‘I also need to make a bold return, but the problem is that my stylists and makeup artists have all aged. They’ve aged with me for 20 years.’ She pondered whether to change her staff to younger ones, saying, ‘It’s a dilemma. It’s not that the staff who have been with me for a long time are the issue, but they know me too well, and it’s become difficult for them to suggest, ‘Let’s try something different.”
