IVE Jang Wonyoung receives 7 stitches from injury on set – fans enraged by company’s inaction 

Netizens praised Jang Wonyoung for pushing forward with the MV shooting despite a serious injury. 

On July 17, Jang Wonyoung’s fandom sent a truck to the Starship Entertainment building to protest the company’s mistreatment of Jang Wonyoung. Fans reached the boiling point with the company following an accident during the preparation for the latest album comeback, “I’ve IVE,” and the “I AM” MV. While Jang Wonyoung is one of the most well-known fourth-generation idols with a massive fanbase following  “Produce 48,” the treatment she is receiving is unequal to what she can contribute. 

Before the truck protest, Jang Wonyoung got into various controversies, partly due to her rising popularity. While anti-fans say she is favored by the company, fans affirm the idol is only used to create a better image for the company, instead of getting appropriate treatment. Hence, that is why Jang Wonyoung frequently looks tired and appears with injuries during the group’s hectic schedule. 

Recently, the director of the “I AM” MV revealed that Wonyoung had a serious injury on her arm after doing a scene. It was so severe that she had 7 stitches and was hospitalized for two days. Through released photos, fans can see that the wound has not completely healed. Jang Wonyoung only used a Band-Aid as a quick fix.

More importantly, the accident was kept secret for five long months. It only surfaced after the director revealed the behind-the-scene story of “I AM” MV. At the same time, fans took jabs at Starship for trying to remove the video to avoid criticism. 

After the event, netizens are showing a shift in attitude in favor of Jang Wonyoung. Instead of criticizing, they praise the idol for her dedication to her idol career.

• Starship took down the video after getting criticized… Yet, they don’t care that Jang Wonyoung has endured malicious comments for more than a year;
