On Jan 12th, at the press conference for the Friday-Saturday drama “Knight Flower” held at MBC in Sangam-dong, Seoul, Honey Lee confessed, “It’s been 3 years already. I didn’t hesitate too long. Considering the recent childbirth, it was a time when it could have been a concern, but the script was really interesting. The material was so fresh that I wanted to do it. My heart raced, and I wanted to get on the set quickly. It was good that Director Jang Tae-yoo was joining. It was intriguing to see the combination of the SBS historical drama master and MBC. Director Jang Tae-yoo had good directing skills regardless of genre, so I chose ‘Knight Flower’ with the thought ‘I need to learn a lesson’.“
“Knight Flower” revolves around Jo Yeo-hwa (Honey Lee), a widow who is the daughter-in-law of the most prestigious noble family in Joseon. She lives a quiet and secluded life at home during the day, but sneaks out of their house at night to help people in need. It is the first MBC drama directed by Jang Tae-yoo, who directed “My Love from the Star” (2013~2014). PD Jang said, “Although it’s a historical drama, it deals with virtual history and provides delightful action and laughter.” He praised, “When thinking ‘Who can play the role of a widow?’, Honey Lee was the first to come to mind. She has maturity and empathetic acting skills, and she can handle action and comedy. Isn’t casting almost impossible? I challenged the impossible by proposing it to Honey Lee. She’s a national treasure in Korea.”
MBC TV’s Friday-Saturday dramas have been on the rise with “My Dearest” and “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”. Will “Knight Flower” continue this trend? PD Jang commented, “When I was young, there were only KBS and MBC. I’m from the class of ’91 in university, and SBS was created back then. I spent half of my life as an SBS PD, but I grew up hearing the phrase ‘The drama kingdom is MBC’. It was a place with many famous star PDs and a place famous for historical dramas.”
He added, “MBC is the only broadcasting station that owns a set. It seems to be the most optimized place to make historical dramas. The production environment was good. I finished filming with the thought ‘If you were to make a historical drama, it should be done at MBC’.“
The drama will premiere at 9:50 PM on the same day.
