“Gyeongseong Creature” Part 2, shocking twists “Raise expectations for Season 2”

With a budget of 70 billion won, “Gyeongseong Creature” is set in the spring of 1945, when Gyeongseong (the old name for Seoul) was in its darkest era. It depicts the story of two young adults Jang Tae-sang (Park Seo-joon) and Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee), who confront a strange creature born of greed and battle against it for survival.

While Part 1 faced criticism for falling short of expectations, having a predictable plot and an excess of clichés, Part 2, fueled by the stellar performances of the lead actors, unfolds with dramatic developments and deepening melodrama.

The charm of “Gyeongseong Creature” lies in its refusal to depict characters in a stereotypical manner, avoiding the portrayal of characters as purely good Joseon people or villainous Japanese forces during the Japanese colonial era. The series introduces a variety of characters reflecting the complexities of that era.

The romantic aspect of the story deepens as the love between Jang Tae-sang and Yoon Chae-ok grows. Yoon Chae-ok, labeled a “heinous murderer” with a wanted poster after shooting Director Ichiro (played by Hyun Bong-sik), is pursued by the Japanese military. Jang Tae-sang attempts to stow away together with Yoon Chae-ok, but Yoon Chae-ok suggests stopping, not wanting to involve Jang Tae-sang in her tumultuous life. Jang Tae-sang, expressing eternal love, assures her that he will go with her and be her protector.

In episode 10, the Creature escapes from Ongseong Hospital to find her daughter Yoon Chae-ok, leading to shocking events and plot twists. The ending scene hints at what to expect in Season 2.

Overall, Part 2 addresses the shortcomings of Part 1, and the anticipation for Season 2 of “Gyeongseong Creature” is now even higher.
