A K-drama enthusiast would know that post-apocalyptic themes are widely popular in the drama scene. It is a theme used to describe a human world overriden by zombies, plagues, or nuclear warfare. These are five worthwhile post-apocalyptic dramas that any curious viewers could start watching to know about the new hottest genre: 

Sweet Home 

After gaining widespread popularity with the first season in 2020, “Sweet Home” soon became a buzzworthy survival drama. It starts with a high-school student who locks himself up in his room after being bullied all the time. When he goes outside, the main character is confronted with a world plagued by monsters born out of a mysterious disease. Through the combat against flesh-hungry monsters, the drama tells an emotional story of love, family relationship, and human connections.

A source revealed that the second and third seasons of the series would continue with the cast from the first season, including Song Kang, Lee Jin Wook, Lee Si Young, and Go Min Si. Jin Young and Oh Jung Se will join the cast as new characters. 

Happiness 

Released in 2021, “Happiness” explores the class division laid bare in a post-apocalyptic world where the  Lytta Virus plagues a residential apartment that transforms people through a zombie-like regression process. The drama gathers famous names such as Han Hyo Joo, Park Hyun Sik, and Jo Woo Jin.

All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead” is a drama adaptation of the famous webtoon named “Now At Our School” by Joo Dong Geun that ran from 2009 to 2011. It also follows the fight for survival of a group of high-school students when there is a sudden zombie outbreak at their school. Not long ago,  “All of Us Are Dead” announced a second season was underway. Four main cast members – Yoon Chan Young, Park Ji Hoon, Cho Yi Hyun, and Solomon – will reprise their roles.

Black Knight

Black Knight is Kim Woo Bin’s return drama after years of battling with cancer. The series is based on the webcomic of the same name by Lee Yoon Kyun. It is set in the year 2071 when a comet hits the Earth and creates lethal air pollution that forces survivors to depend on oxygen tanks and masks. In Korea, only 1% of the population survives. The essential oxygen and food are dropped off by a Cadre of elite delivery drivers commissioned by the Cheonmyeong Group.

Duty After School” is the hottest post-apocalyptic series of 2023. A group of students at a regular highschool has to learn how to fight against mysterious creatures from the sky. It overcomes many suspicions about quality and affirms its originality and singular values.
