Korean Media Believes That Park Seo-joon Has Proved The Class Of K-Content Through “The Marvels”

Actor Park Seo-joon appeared in the Marvel film “The Marvels” and is receiving keen attention in Korea

Despite playing a small role and with short screen time, Park Seo-joon’s performance already made fans feel proud.

The Marvels” is currently screened in theaters. Directed by Nia DaCosta, it’s a hero action blockbuster depicting the story that happens when ‘Captain Marvel’ Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), who protects space, gets into trouble as she swaps her position with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) whenever she uses her power.

“The Marvels” is the sequel to the film “Captain Marvel” released on March 6th, 2019. In this second movie, Park Seo-joon appears as Prince Yan of the planet Aladna who married Carol Danvers in a political marriage.

At a press conference recently, director Nia DaCosta talked about the casting process. She said, “I watched the Korean drama ‘Itaewon Class’ at the recommendation of my friend during the Covid-19 pandemic. Park Seo-joon captivated me at first glance”, adding “I was in charge of directing ‘The Marvels’ and as I was thinking about the casting of Prince Yan, Park Seo-joon came to my mind.”

It is very impressive that a Korean actor was cast to appear in an MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) film. In addition, this has properly proved the explosive popularity of Korean stars and the rising class of K-content in the global market.

Park Seo-joon appears in the film 55 minutes after the opening. In that scene, Prince Yan sings while holding the hand of his lover Carol Danvers as they reunite after a long time. Park Seo-joon surprised everyone as he showed a new image never seen in any Korean work.

Making a completely new transformation from the characters in his previous works, Park Seo-joon amazed viewers with his visual while dancing and singing. Despite some ridiculous criticism, “The Marvels” is still considered a meaningful challenge and a significant leap forward in Park Seo-joon’s acting career.

According to the Korean Film Council on November 12th, “The Marvels” ranked No.1 in the daily box office chart and it attracted 132,882 viewers the previous day (November 11th). The movie has accumulated 343,089 viewers so far.

As of 9 a.m. on the 12th, the ticket reservation rate of “The Marvels” recorded 17.3%, ranking 1st among all ongoing movies.
