Fans show divided reactions to the news of SM holding an audition to recruit new members for NCT

SM Entertainment will hold an audition in Japan to find new members for its boy group NCT.

An announcement with information about an audition written in Japanese was recently posted on the official website of SM Entertainment.

The audition will be held at the Tokyo School of Music & Dance in Tokyo, Japan from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month from February to June.

Any male born between 2001 and 2008 is eligible to apply for the audition regardless of nationality. Applicants can choose and prepare for any skill among sing, rap and dance.

Those who pass the audition will receive SM’s trainee training free of charge and have the opportunity to debut as an NCT member.

Fans were very surprised as soon as the news of NCT audition was reported. It is because NCT already has 23 members with several units, such as NCT U, NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.

In response, some netizens commented, “I think SM should create a new group”, “Will NCT’s Japanese team appear at the audition?”, etc.

However, many fans are excited, pointing out that it is a natural step for NCT, which has continued its concept of a “limitlessly expanded group” since debut, to increase the number of its members.

Meanwhile, NCT debuted in 2016. NCT 127 won Daesang at the 31st Seoul Music Awards and NCT DREAM won it at the 32nd Seoul Music Awards recently held on January 19th.
