Choi Ye Na’s side belatedly apologizes for ending promotion due to controversy without informing fans, “We humbly accept criticism”

One and a half months after the controversy over her song’s title broke out, Choi Ye Na’s agency released an official apology.

On August 5th, Yuehua Entertainment released a statement on Choi Ye Na’s official fancafe, saying “Regarding Choi Ye Na’s second single album ‘HATE XX’, which was released on June 27th, we apologize for not informing fans of the artist and album activities as soon as possible”.

The agency continued, “We humbly accept criticism and feedback from affectionate fans. In the future, we will attentively listen to various opinions and show greater efforts”, adding “Please continue to give lots of attention and love to Choi Ye Na, who will continue to work hard for fans in the future”.

Earlier, Choi Ye Na was embroiled in controversy over the title song “Hate Rodrigo” of her second single “HATE XX” released in June.

Choi Ye Na participated in writing and composing “Hate Rodrigo”, which expresses the female singer’s admiration for her role model Olivia Rodrigo with cute jealousy, like saying “I hate anyone who’s doing better than me!”. However, netizens poured criticism towards Choi Ye Na’s new song, pointing out that it was rude to use the negative word “Hate” for the name of another singer.

Yuehua unexpectedly took down “Hate Rodrigo” music video due to portrait rights issues. After removing all the photos of Olivia Rodrigo and related content, they re-uploaded the music video. At that time, the agency explained, “We found that there was a possibility of an infringement on trademark rights, portrait rights, and copyrights in certain scenes of the ‘Hate Rodrigo’ music video. The claim that the music video was switched to private due to a request from Olivia Rodrigo’s side is not true.”

As the controversy intensified even after the agency’s explanation, Choi Ye Na announced her absence from music show activities due to poor health conditions and wrapped up her new album promotional activities without further notice.
