Famous Idol-Actor Under Fire for Wearing Blackface in Upcoming Movie

The image of this famous K-pop idol-turned-actor wearing a blackface has sparked outrage among international fans.

Chinese idol-actor Wang Yibo originally debuted in 2014 as a member of the K-pop group UNIQ. However, he has since focused on the Chinese market, and gained significant attention after starring as a male lead in the 2019 drama “The Untamed”.

Recently, images of Wang Yibo from his upcoming film “Formed Police Unit. Formed Police Unit”, which revolves around a police unit carrying out peacekeeping missions, were revealed.

In this film, several characters, including Wang Yibo’s, had to disguise themselves to mingle with the local people as their team joined a mission in Africa.

As a result, Wang Yibo’s character wore dreadlocks and painted his skin brown – basically wearing a blackface – an incredibly disrespectful gesture towards black people due to its negative history and racist implication.

It is known that several other cast members also did the same while interacting with black actors.

These images have sparked outrage among international fans, who call the crew’s decision to wear blackface “revolting”, “racial hostility”, and more.

However, some explained that the movie is based on a real United Nations peacekeeping mission, which utilized such a disguise, and so was only being faithful to its source material.
